QuakeGuard was engineered not merely as a software exercise, but as a robust submission for prominent academic and industry-sponsored technology initiatives.
Hackersgen is a comprehensive educational and professional growth platform in the IT world, sponsored by the global IT company Sorint.lab. It aims to bridge the gap between high school/university students and the enterprise technology landscape. Through this platform, QuakeGuard was developed to address the core challenges of designing a highly available, cloud-native architecture capable of withstanding extreme stress and security threats.
- Focus Areas: Microservices, DevOps (Docker, CI/CD), Data Engineering, and API Security.
Operating within the broader Hackersgen initiative, this prestigious award is now managed by its own dedicated entity: the Fondazione GF Marilli, established in honor of Gianfranco Marilli. The foundation champions innovative hardware and software integration with a strong emphasis on real-world social impact. QuakeGuard was submitted as a life-saving, low-cost distributed infrastructure for Earthquake Early Warning (EEW) in alignment with the foundation's values.

The development of QuakeGuard served as a comprehensive, full-stack educational journey covering:
- Embedded Systems: Real-time operating systems (FreeRTOS), memory management, and I2C protocols.
- Cryptography: Practical implementation of public-key infrastructure (PKI) on resource-constrained devices.
- Distributed Systems: Asynchronous message brokers (Redis, MQTT) and spatial databases (PostGIS).
- Modern Frontend: React Native, WebSockets, and complex state management (Zustand/React Query).
