@GiZcesi GiZcesi released this 04 Oct 11:25

First public test release of OpenTricky, a recompiled PC port of SSX Tricky (Xbox, 2001). It continues SSX Tricky PC v0.2.0.

⚠️ Unstable. It is fully playable, but please read the Known issues first.
💿 The download is the executable only: no disc image, game data, music or video. You need a disc image (.iso) of your own SSX Tricky Xbox, USA disc.

Download

OpenTricky-0.1.0-unstable-win64.zip: extract it, start SSX Tricky.exe and choose your disc image. Windows 10/11 64-bit with Direct3D 11.

Highlights

  • Looks like the Xbox again:
    • the fog and mist banks, sun lens flares, board tops (Uberboard) and terrain haze are back;
    • colours and brightness match the console;
    • race intros play in full.
  • High frame rates: 60, 120, 144, 240 or unlimited, with interpolation. The game logic stays at 60, so the gameplay is unchanged.
  • Much faster renderer, GPU particles, no more sound crackling, and no more freeze at the EA logo.
  • Ultrawide 21:9 / 32:9, drawn wider by the game itself instead of stretched, with a field-of-view setting.
  • Optional extras, all off by default:
    • SMAA edge smoothing (the HUD stays sharp);
    • soft shadows;
    • draw distance ×1.5 / ×2.
  • New launcher in the game's style, with keyboard and controller remapping, saves in Documents\My Games, and a portable mode.

Full list: CHANGELOG.md.

Known issues (short)

  • Rare crash while a race loads or during its intro: restart the game.
  • 21:9 / 32:9: the race HUD is still stretched (a fix is in progress). On 32:9, use Balanced field of view.
  • A short flash when your rider respawns.
  • No VSync option yet: set the frame rate limit to your monitor's refresh rate.
  • Only Xbox-style controllers are supported natively.
