π What's New in v2.0.26 π
βοΈ Bitcoin Core 31 built in
Ginger Wallet now uses Bitcoin Core 31 instead of Bitcoin Knots for its optional built-in full node. Existing full-node users can continue using the feature as before. Ginger safely backs up and removes old settings that are not supported by Bitcoin Core.
The wallet also shows clearer information while the local node is starting, connecting, or synchronizing.
π Better Apple Silicon support
The Apple Silicon version now includes native components for Tor, hardware wallets, and Bitcoin Core. Packaging and notarization checks were also strengthened, making Ginger more reliable on modern Macs with Apple chips.
π Privacy, security, and hardware wallet updates
- Updated the built-in Tor software to version
15.0.17. - Updated hardware wallet support to HWI
3.2.0. - Fixed a vulnerable SQLite dependency and refreshed other trusted software components.
Ginger continues to route its network requests over Tor for improved privacy.
πΈ More reliable fee handling
When full-node fee estimation is selected but the local node is not available, Ginger now handles the situation cleanly and avoids repeated background errors. Manual fee entry remains available so you can still prepare a transaction.
πͺ Windows improvements
Ginger's Windows application files are now signed in addition to the installer, improving the installation trust chain.
Release signing was also updated for the renewed Certum certificate. The packaging tools now validate the configured certificate and stop the release if Windows signing fails.
Ginger can also run independently under different Windows user accounts on the same computer. If the same user starts Ginger twice, the wallet now shows a clear message instead of silently closing.
π οΈ Reliability improvements
This release includes additional Bitcoin Core compatibility work and faster, more reliable automated tests across Windows, Linux, Intel Macs, and Apple Silicon Macs. These changes help us catch platform-specific problems earlier and ship more dependable releases.
