Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.12
A fix for older AMD graphics cards.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Fixed
- The game didn't start on some older AMD graphics cards (#12): one of the game's graphics programs (shaders) used a word
that older AMD drivers reserve, so it couldn't be built and the game stopped at a black screen. It now uses another word.
The game itself plays exactly as in 1.0.11.
If you hit a bug, please open an issue with log.txt (or
log.previous.txt, the run before) from %APPDATA%\Crash Twinsanity\ and where in the game it happened.
How to play
- Download
Crash-Twinsanity-Windows.zipbelow and unzip it anywhere. - Run
CrashTwinsanity.exein theCrash Twinsanityfolder. The program isn't signed, so Windows may warn about an
unrecognised app: choose More info, then Run anyway. - Pick your disc image when asked.
You need 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 and a graphics card with OpenGL 3.3. Your saves and settings from earlier versions are kept.
The download
- Built from commit 533802b with LLVM-MinGW (clang 23).
- Contains SDL 3.4.18 (zlib licence) and FFmpeg 9.0.2 (LGPL 2.1 or later, with only the MPEG-2 video decoder), with their
licences in thelicensesfolder. - SHA-256 of

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.11
An FPS counter, and the graphics card in the log.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
New
- Options > Display > Show FPS shows the frames per second in the top left corner of the window (#4). It's off by
default, and it counts what the window really shows: the game, the movies and the loading screens. - The log names your graphics card and its driver's version. If you report a bug, we'll know right away which hardware the
game ran on.
The game itself plays exactly as in 1.0.10.
If you hit a bug, please open an issue with log.txt (or
log.previous.txt, the run before) from %APPDATA%\Crash Twinsanity\ and where in the game it happened.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.10
Smoother play above 60 Hz, and a faster mouse. Fixes for jumps and lifts at high refresh rates, and a mouse camera that
can turn as fast as you want.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Fixed
- Jumps sometimes went much too far above 60 Hz (#7): a slide jump, or Crash and Cortex jumping and spinning quickly,
could fly far past where it should land. When one frame took longer than the others, the game worked out Crash's speed
from the wrong frame's time and launched him several times too fast. Jumps now land where they do at 60 Hz, and they're
no longer a little higher above 60 Hz. - The lifts in Cavern Catastrophe threw Crash up by himself (#8): with Cortex tied to him on a rising lift, Crash kept
hopping higher and higher. Same cause, same fix. - The mouse camera couldn't turn fast enough (#6): even at the highest sensitivity the camera stopped at the game's
fastest turn. Above sensitivity 5, a quick mouse move now turns it faster (up to six times at 10), and Camera speed
now really speeds the camera up, for the mouse and controllers alike. At the default settings nothing changes.
At 60 Hz the game plays exactly as in 1.0.9.
Known issues being looked into
- AMD graphics cards (#4): the game can get stuck on a black screen at start, and a few models can show small glitches.
Until it's fixed, issue #4 has a simple workaround. - Skipping cutscenes (#9, an option that's off by default) can leave the game in a broken state in some scenes, and after
skipping the skunk's scene the game can close when you attack it. Watching the scenes avoids it. - A cutscene in the level after the caverns (Cortex running with the bees) froze once, in an early version, when it was
played again after dying. It hasn't happened since 1.0.3 and was never reproduced.
If you hit a bug, please open an issue with log.txt (or
log.previous.txt, the run before) from %APPDATA%\Crash Twinsanity\ and where in the game it happened.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.9
The menus' original hints are back. The pause and game menus show the hints the game itself draws again ("select",
"back" and the page arrows with L1 L2 and R1 R2), with the buttons of the controller you're using.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Menu hints
- The hints follow your controller, as the game's other texts already did: a PlayStation controller shows the game's own
buttons; an Xbox controller shows A, B, LB, LT, RB and RT; a Nintendo controller shows its own letters and L, ZL, R and ZR.
The Xbox and Nintendo buttons are drawn in the style of the game's own button icons. - With the keyboard, the hints show the keys: Enter to select, Esc to go back, and Z and C to turn the pause menu's pages.
- You can click them with the mouse: select, back, and the arrows turn the pause menu's pages.
- Options > Controls > Menu hints chooses between the game's own hints (the default) and the bar of prompts at the bottom
of the screen that earlier versions showed.
The game itself is the same as in 1.0.8.
Known issue
- A cutscene in the level after the caverns (Cortex running with the bees) froze once, in an early version, when it was
played again after dying. It hasn't happened since 1.0.3 and was never reproduced. If you see it, please report it.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.8
The first full release. Crash Twinsanity has now been played on Windows from the start to the credits, so this port is
no longer a preview.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Played to the credits
The whole game was played by hand on the releases up to 1.0.7, in Italian with an Xbox One controller: from the beach to
the final boss, the ending movies and the credits. The logs of the last sessions show no crash and no freeze. Every crash
found on the way was fixed in the previews:
- the caverns' ant fight (1.0.2);
- silent crystals in the caverns, in Italian (1.0.3);
- landing on a mine in Slip Slide Icecapades (1.0.5);
- going on after beating Dingodile in the boiler room (1.0.7).
The game itself is the same as in 1.0.7. This release only updates the version number and the project's pages.
Known issue
- A cutscene in the level after the caverns (Cortex running with the bees) froze once, in an early version, when it was
played again after dying. It hasn't happened since 1.0.3 and was never reproduced. If you see it, please report it.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.7 (preview)
Fixes the crashes after beating Dingodile. Still a preview: nobody has played it through to the credits yet.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Fixed
- After beating Dingodile in the boiler room, the game could draw wrong textures and then close, in the corridor that
follows or on the way into the Academy's grounds, and again after starting over. Going from his room into that corridor,
the game starts loading the Academy before it lets go of the boiler rooms left behind. A PC loads so much faster than the
PS2 that, for a moment, everything was in memory at once, and the space the game keeps for the levels' models, textures and
collision (the PS2's 16.6 MB) ran out: the game then overwrote some of its own data. That space is now twice as big. The
Linux build shares this code, so the fix covers it as well.
For developers
- A full level memory is now said in the log (
disk: no room).$TWIN_DISK_TRACElogs that memory's blocks and the levels
loaded and unloaded, andnative/tools/disk_use.pysums it up. The level sweep's hops can show an object's behaviour
scripts (scripts:NAME) and make a script jump to a state (state:GRAPH:N: a boss beaten without playing it), and
check_windows.pynow plays Dingodile's end.native/WINDOWS.mdexplains them.
Known issues being looked into
- A cutscene in the level after the caverns (Cortex running with the bees) may freeze when it's played again after dying.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.6 (preview)
A new icon. Still a preview: nobody has played it through to the credits yet.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Changed
- The program has an icon of its own: two spiral eyes on an orange tile, drawn for this port, instead of the game's
cover art (which belongs to Activision). The game itself plays exactly as in 1.0.5. If you unzip over an earlier version,
Windows may keep showing the old icon for a while: that's its icon cache, and it catches up by itself.
For developers
- Two new scripts:
native/tools/check_windows.pyruns the checks a change needs (the self-tests, the places that once
crashed, the beach's pictures against the last build's, and every level with--sweep), and
native/tools/release_windows.pybuilds a release from a clean clone, checks the zip and publishes it. This release is
the first made with them.native/WINDOWS.mdexplains both.
Known issues being looked into
- A cutscene in the level after the caverns (Cortex running with the bees) may freeze when it's played again after dying.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.5 (preview)
Fixes a crash in Slip Slide Icecapades. Still a preview: nobody has played it through to the credits yet.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Fixed
- The game closed in Slip Slide Icecapades when Crash, riding Cortex down the snow, reached a mine. A script command that
launches things at a given speed read that speed in a way the PC's processor rejects. Eleven other script commands (for
moving, turning, warping and pushing things) had the same mistake and are fixed too: none had been seen to crash yet, but
any could have. The Linux build shares this code, so the fix covers it as well.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.4 (preview)
New default settings that follow the original game. Still a preview: nobody has played it through to the credits yet.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Changed
- The defaults are the game as the PS2 had it. Cutscenes can't be skipped, as on the PS2: to skip them, turn on
Options > Gameplay > Skip cutscenes, then hold any button. The original bugs are kept, the game runs at 60 Hz, and faster
loading and pausing in the background are on. - The first start opens a 1280×720 window at twice the PS2's resolution. It used to open a 1280×960 window at four times,
which could be slow on laptops. Fullscreen and higher resolutions are in Options > Display. - "Reset to defaults" now gives the same values as a first start. On the Display tab it used to give 1x and 50 Hz.
- Anti-aliasing is now "Off" or "FXAA". The "4x" choice did nothing. For smoother edges, raise the resolution.
- Texture upscale is hidden until it works. It did nothing.
Your settings are kept. To use the new defaults, choose Reset to defaults at the bottom of each tab. If your
anti-aliasing was on "4x", it's now FXAA.
Fixed
- The README's controls: the shoulder buttons are Z and C (Q and E turn the camera).
Known issues being looked into
- A cutscene in the level after the caverns (Cortex running with the bees) may freeze when it's played again after dying.

Crash Twinsanity for Windows 1.0.3 (preview)
Fixes the silent crystals in the caverns. Still a preview: nobody has played it through to the credits yet.
Important
You need your own copy of the game: a disc image of the PAL release (Europe/Australia, SLES-52568). The download has
none of the game's files or data. The program reads them from your disc image each time it starts.
Fixed
- Silent or wrong crystal sounds in the caverns: in Italian, the crystals Cortex rings were silent, and others could
play the wrong sound. On the PS2 the cave's echo (the reverb) works in the same memory as the game's sounds. When that
memory is nearly full, as it is with the Italian voices, the game's own sound driver can put a sound where the echo works,
and the sound is lost. The echo now has memory of its own, so every sound plays. The echo sounds as before. - Long movies reported as freezes: the freeze watch didn't count a movie's frames, so a movie longer than 20 seconds was
written to the log as a freeze.
A more detailed log
With Options > Gameplay > Detailed log on, log.txt now also logs the sound side: each sound bank loaded and where
it went, what each sound played put out, and the echo going on and off.
Known issues being looked into
- A cutscene in the level after the caverns (Cortex running with the bees) may freeze when it's played again after dying.
