About
Campus Docs Assistant is a conversational interface designed to make university regulations, academic calendars, and formal procedures accessible and easy to understand. It leverages retrieval-augmented generation to interpret official institutional documents and return clear, objective responses to user questions.
This release aligns with the goals outlined in the Campus Docs Assistant paper, focusing on institutional transparency and student empowerment through the use of intelligent, user-centered interfaces.
Deployment Details
This first release is publicly deployed on the Streamlit platform and is intended for user testing by the academic community at UFMS (Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul).
- Pinecone vector database is preconfigured and connected with the embedding model
text-embedding-3-smallfrom OpenAI. - API keys for Pinecone, OpenAI, and Maritalk are already set and shared across users for testing purposes. Usage is limited to ensure fairness and prevent abuse.
- Configuration for setting custom API keys is disabled in the UI in this release, as noted in commit
5a3441eon thedeploybranch.

Purpose of this Release
This is an initial beta release intended to collect feedback and evaluate the system's performance in real-world academic settings with students, faculty, and administrative staff. The assistant is designed to:
- Interpret complex bureaucratic text into accessible language
- Guide users through academic policies and procedures
- Reduce dependency on manual support channels
This test deployment is a proof of concept, demonstrating the potential of combining AI with institutional transparency and student autonomy.
