Team-X v3.5.0: every switch does what it says

This release is about trust. In v3.4.0, many settings and features looked live but did nothing. In v3.5.0 every switch does what its label says, every refusal tells you why, and every model call counts against your budget.

Highlights

  • Privacy tiers are enforced, not just displayed. Every model call, embedding and external runtime is checked against Settings → Privacy at the moment it runs:
    • Codex, Claude Code, Cursor and command runtimes count as Proprietary Cloud.
    • An HTTP runtime counts as Local only on your own network.
    • A provider above your tier is refused with a reason and is never silently swapped for another.
    • The Privacy panel lists who is affected before anything runs.
  • Copilot answers from your company's own knowledge. It searches your messages, tickets, meeting minutes and vault files. Long-term memory and the knowledge graph now survive restarts, and every Enhanced AI switch takes effect.
  • The Models tab. Run GGUF models through a bundled llama.cpp, browse and download from Hugging Face with pause and resume, connect LM Studio, Ollama or vLLM servers on your network, and benchmark real throughput.
  • Work that finishes:
    • The command palette classifies what you type with a model.
    • Meetings write minutes and file their action items as tickets.
    • The Hire dialog offers all 55 roles.
    • Proactive Mode works per company.
    • A failed turn tells you why.
  • More secure and faster. Electron 44 replaces the unsupported Electron 31, and every known critical and high dependency vulnerability is fixed. The window runs only Team-X's own code, cannot be navigated away, and answers requests only from itself. Start-up is lighter: the start-up script is about a sixth of its old size and each screen loads on first use.
  • A fresh install opens the first time. An installed build looked for its starter roles in the wrong folder, so the very first launch stopped with "Team-X failed to start". It now opens with its Chief Executive Officer and Senior Fullstack Engineer in place.
  • Checked installers. Each Windows and macOS installer is installed, launched and uninstalled automatically before a release publishes. Every download has a provenance attestation, and an SBOM is attached. v3.5.0 is not code-signed, so your operating system warns before running it; check your download against SHA256SUMS.txt or its attestation.
  • Local models start on Linux and macOS. The bundled llama.cpp server could not load its own libraries. It does now, and a release whose server does not start is refused.
  • The Linux AppImage needs no FUSE 2. It now embeds AppImage's static runtime and starts on a stock Ubuntu 22.04 or 24.04 desktop (#16).

Upgrade notes

  • Privacy: if your tier was below an employee's cloud provider, that employee now stops with a clear refusal instead of quietly using the cloud. Settings → Privacy shows who is affected.
  • Search index: Semantic Chunking now applies to the search index. Run Settings → Retrieval → Rebuild once to re-chunk existing content.
  • First company: if your first launch of an earlier version failed and the second worked, that company was created without its Chief Executive Officer and Senior Fullstack Engineer. Add them from the Hire dialog.
  • Database: migration 0037 (long-term memory and knowledge graph) runs automatically on first launch.
  • Removed: the team-x-ai command-line tool, whose output was not real, and the Streaming, Multi-Turn Planning, Max Tokens and Temperature settings, which nothing applied.
