Initial release of archive-portability, a dependency-free Python 3.11+ library and CLI for checking ZIP/tar member names before cross-platform release or restore.
Checks include conservative case/Unicode collisions (including implicit directories), Windows device names, invalid characters, duplicate paths, file/directory conflicts, rooted paths, parent components, and special entries. Supports text and versioned JSON output. Never extracts members.
This is a portability linter, not an extraction safety certificate. Unicode casefold is not exact filesystem emulation. Link targets, payload integrity, and ZIP alternate-name extra fields are not validated. See the README for resource-limit and profile limitations.
Validation: 14 regression tests locally, wheel installation, self-inspection, and four checksum-verified public Python distribution samples. See the repository's CI run for platform results. No external adoption is claimed.
Initial implementation was AI-assisted and tested. Feedback with minimal dummy-content fixtures is welcome.
