Gameplay and Features
GoCraft simulates a large slice of vanilla gameplay in the edition-neutral core, so Java and Bedrock players experience the same world, mobs, and mechanics. This page maps the gameplay systems the server implements. Everything below runs on both editions unless noted.
Parity is a moving target — some behaviours are complete, some partial. For the detailed, code-derived status of individual interactions, see
docs/vanilla-interaction-parity-audit.mdin the repository.
-
Seeded generator for the Overworld, Nether, and End (
world_seedin Configuration). - 3D noise terrain, biome placement, and surface features.
- Structures & landmarks: villages (with populated residents and job sites), strongholds, and dimension-specific features.
- Portals: Nether portal lighting/linking and End portal frames.
- Chunk streaming with a configurable
view_distanceand backgroundpregenerate_radius.
- Overworld, Nether, and End, each persisted to its own Anvil folder (
world/,world_nether/,world_end/). - Cross-dimension travel via portals;
/world <overworld|nether|end>moves a player directly.
GoCraft implements a broad set of block interactions as canonical operations shared by both editions:
- Redstone: wire, torches, repeaters, comparators, levers, buttons, pressure plates, daylight detectors, observers, redstone lamps, targets, tripwire hooks — with power propagation and load activation.
- Mechanisms: pistons/sticky pistons, dispensers, droppers, hoppers, crafters, note blocks, bells, rails (normal/powered/detector/activator), TNT ignition.
- Containers & storage: chests/double chests, barrels, ender chests (per-player), shulker boxes (contents preserved on break), furnaces/smokers/blast furnaces, brewing stands, decorated pots.
- Workstations: jukebox (disc insert/eject + comparator signal), lectern (book insert/remove), chiseled bookshelf, composter, respawn anchor, anvil, grindstone, smithing table, loom, stonecutter, cartography table, beacon, enchanting table. (Several open a screen but have partial defining logic — see the parity audit.)
- Copper: waxing with honeycomb and oxidation scraping.
- Decorations & misc: flower pots (in/out), candles & candle cakes, beehive/bee-nest harvest, signs & hanging signs (text, dye colour, glow ink, honeycomb waxing), banners, dragon egg teleport.
- Tools: axes (stripping, de-oxidizing, de-waxing), hoes (tilling), shovels (paths, extinguishing), shears (shearing, pumpkin carving, tripwire disarm), flint & steel / fire charge, bone meal, ender eye.
Hoppers, droppers, dispensers, and crafters run vanilla-style item movement on an 8-tick cadence: hopper push/pull, dropped-item pickup, dispenser projectile/bucket/spawn-egg/bone-meal behaviour, and crafter auto-crafting.
A scheduled block-physics engine drives:
- Gravity blocks (sand, gravel, anvils, concrete powder, dragon egg…)
- Fluids: water/lava spread and hardening, waterlogging
- Fire: spread, burnout, flammability, netherrack permanence
- Leaf decay, ice melt, coral death
- Growth: crops/stems, saplings→trees, sugar cane, cactus, bamboo, kelp, cave vines, twisting/weeping (nether) vines, ordinary vines, sponge water absorption
-
Natural spawning with per-category caps (
mob_spawningin Configuration): hostile, passive, ambient, axolotls, and water creatures. - Mob AI (modelled on Pumpkin's goal stack): pathfinding/navigation, wander, look-at, tempt with food, panic/flee, swimming, breeding, and sleeping goals.
-
Villagers: professions, job-site/bed assignment, door usage, breeding, sleeping at night, and iron-golem guards (toggle with
villagers). - Animals: feeding, breeding, baby growth, taming (wolves/cats), sitting, saddling/mounting, sheep shearing/dyeing/wool regrowth, cow/mooshroom milking, spawn eggs, fish/axolotl/tadpole bucket capture.
- Special: enderman block carry, aquatic mob behaviour, pufferfish, area-effect clouds (lingering potions), fireworks, primed TNT and TNT minecarts, experience orbs.
- Vehicles: boats and minecarts (placement, mounting, rails, powered/detector/activator effects, chest-boat storage).
- Melee combat: damage, reach, attack cooldown (configurable), armor/toughness, knockback (configurable), mace fall bonus, durability.
- Projectiles: bow (Java), snowball/egg/ender pearl/experience bottle/wind charge, shared collision & damage.
- Status-effect engine: canonical timed effects — tick/expiry, periodic damage/heal, defensive-damage modification, cure, persistence, and cross-edition sync.
- Potions: drinkable, splash, and lingering (area-effect clouds), plus milk/honey cures and suspicious stew.
- Hazards: fall, fire, lava, cactus, sweet-berry, drowning, void damage; hunger, exhaustion, natural regeneration, and starvation.
-
Difficulty:
peaceful/easy/normal/hard(/difficulty), affecting hostile spawns and damage. - Death & respawn: drops, spawn points, beds set spawn and allow sleeping at night; respawn anchors in the Nether.
- Game modes: survival, creative, adventure, spectator.
- Flight and configurable walk/fly speed.
- Inventory, hotbar, offhand slot, item drops, crafting grids, and container UIs.
- Experience and levels; enchantment state on items.
- Persistent player data (position, inventory, health, effects, spawn) saved across sessions.
- Player tags (
/tag) and per-player spawn points. - Idle timeout — auto-disconnect inactive players (configurable).
- Registry-backed vanilla items with hunger/saturation, use durations, and remainders.
- Canonical item components (potion contents, stew effects, custom names, container contents, firework data) that round-trip through Java codecs and Bedrock NBT.
- Custom items defined in YAML, auto-packed for both editions — see Custom Items.
- Item tooltips (durability/attributes) configurable in
server.yml.
- Day/night cycle shared across editions;
/time set|add. - Weather states — clear, rain, thunder (
/weather).
