Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis for Game Boy Advance

Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis, referred to as simply Sonic the Hedgehog on the title screen, is a Game Boy Advance port of Sonic the Hedgehog, originally released for the Sega Mega Drive. It was launched in November 2006 exclusively in North America to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. This port features several differences from the original game.

Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis

Overview

In Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis, Dr. Ivo Robotnik (AKA Dr. Eggman) has invaded South Island to collect the six Chaos Emeralds and conquer the world with them. He has also begun kidnapping the local Animals on the island to turn them into evil robots. However, Sonic the Hedgehog steps in to stop Dr. Eggman, collecting the Chaos Emeralds before he can, saving the Animals, and ultimately restoring peace to South Island.

Gameplay

The game seeks to emulate the physics of the original Sonic the Hedgehog, offering a 2D side-scrolling platform experience. Similar to the original, the only playable character here is Sonic the Hedgehog. Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis also implements an autosave feature, ensuring the player’s progress is saved at certain points throughout the game.

Zones and Acts

Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis is divided into seven Zones, each comprising three Acts. At the end of the third Act in each Zone, players face off against Dr. Eggman in a battle to progress further. The exception to this format is the Final Zone, which consists of a single, short Act.

Note

  • Sonic the Hedgehog Genesis offers fans of the series a chance to experience the classic Sonic gameplay on the Game Boy Advance platform, with some differences and adjustments from the original release.
