DoomCube v1.1.3

DoomCube v1.1.3 substantially polishes the GameCube launcher, redesigns
memory-card persistence, and hardens the self-contained player release.

Highlights

  • Redesigned and polished GameCube launcher and startup presentation.
  • Added GameCube controller glyphs and improved menu presentation.
  • Added launcher music and menu confirmation audio.
  • Added persistent launcher and game configuration.
  • Reworked memory-card storage into one fixed 64-block DOOMCUBE0 file.
  • Stores global configuration and one Doom save per launch identity in the
    same physical memory-card file.
  • Added improved memory-card creation and status presentation.
  • Repaired and hardened the player release bundle and packing workflow.
  • Player release remains self-contained: add a supported WAD and build a
GameCube ISO without the DoomCube development toolchain.
  • Improved regression isolation, save testing, logging, and release staging.

Original hardware validation

This release was tested on an original Nintendo GameCube with a MemCard PRO GC.

The exact player ZIP used for this release was extracted and used to build the
hardware-tested ISO.

Verified on hardware:

  • Memory Card A detection and mounting.
  • Creation of the 64-block DOOMCUBE0 save file.
  • Doom save creation and overwrite.
  • Full power-cycle persistence.
  • Save loading after a cold boot.
  • Existing save-file recognition.
  • Normal launcher and Doom audio operation.

A hardware-only startup issue was isolated to temporary SDL_mixer teardown
during the studio ident. Closing that temporary mixer could prevent the later
memory-card mount from completing on real hardware.

The studio-ident roar has therefore been removed in v1.1.3. The visual studio
ident remains unchanged.

Memory-card note

Memory-card support has now been successfully exercised on original hardware.
DoomCube is still under active development, so using a disposable or backed-up
memory card remains recommended.

WAD files

Doom IWADs are not included.

Supply your own supported WAD files when building the player ISO.
