Block does not work, texts and calls come through, notifications not silenced

Pixel 7 GOS build 2026021200, Messages version 12

Steps

1. Open Messages
2. Click on a conversation
3. Click ellipsis menu
4. People & Options
5. Block
6. Press Ok

Expected Behaviour

Receive no Notifications, nor sounds, when that number calls or sends a text.

Actual Behaviour

Text notification shows up in notification tray
Text notification sound is audible
Text is visible in Messages and conversation is sent to the top

More Info

• Tested against Australian mobile and landline numbers, with and without region prefix.
• Occurs regardless of whether that number is saved as a contact or not
• Notifications also fail to be silenced (both visual and sounds) when disabling notifications from People & options > notifications > disable 'show notifications'.
• Archived conversations stay archived but continue to receive notifications from them including sound.
• Calls are also failed to be blocked

Essentially, the block function is completely useless.
