INFO: Guessing gender

Overview

The burial registry does not record gender. As an experiment, we are attempting to guess gender based on the first name.

Possible results:

• M
• F
• Unisex
• Unknown

Implementation

We purchased the name-gender database from http://www.namegenderpro.com/ and saved it locally as a sqlite database. We query the first name and store the result in the "gender_guess" field.
