PS3 Experimental Support

Sony PlayStation 3 support in Hakamiq CHD Tool is experimental.

This page explains what the tool may detect, what it may refuse, and why PS3 handling is intentionally conservative.

Current status

Hakamiq CHD Tool may analyze and classify some PS3-related inputs, but PS3 conversion support should not be treated as complete or guaranteed.

The tool is designed to avoid unsafe assumptions when dealing with PS3 content.

Supported experimental detection

The tool may inspect inputs such as:

  • PS3 disc folders
  • PS3 ISO images
  • PS3-related package files
  • Existing CHD files for validation or workflow checks

Detection does not always mean conversion is supported.

PS3 folder detection

A PS3 disc folder may be identified by common files and directories such as:

PS3_GAME
PS3_DISC.SFB
PARAM.SFO
EBOOT.BIN

If these files are missing, incomplete, or damaged, the tool may refuse to classify the folder as a valid PS3 disc source.

PS3 ISO detection

PS3 ISO handling is conservative.

The tool may inspect disc structure where possible, but it should not assume that every .iso file is a safe or supported PS3 conversion source.

Encrypted, damaged, incomplete, or unusual ISO images may be rejected or marked as unsafe.

PKG notes

PS3 .pkg files are not normal disc images.

The tool may identify a PKG file, but PKG content should not be treated as a direct CHD conversion source.

CHD notes

Existing CHD files may be inspected or validated as part of the workflow.

This does not mean every PS3 source can be safely converted to CHD.

Why PS3 support is conservative

PS3 disc images can involve special layouts, encryption, large file sizes, and emulator-specific compatibility requirements.

Because of that, Hakamiq CHD Tool should prefer safe refusal over generating a broken or misleading output.

Expected behavior

For PS3-related inputs, the tool may:

  • Analyze the input
  • Classify the content
  • Warn about experimental support
  • Refuse unsafe conversion
  • Skip unsupported cases
  • Report damaged or incomplete sources
  • Require clear source structure before continuing

Not guaranteed

Experimental PS3 support does not guarantee:

  • Full PS3 CHD compatibility
  • Successful conversion for every PS3 ISO
  • Emulator compatibility after conversion
  • Repair of damaged files
  • Recovery of incomplete dumps
  • Support for encrypted or unknown layouts

Safety principle

If Hakamiq CHD Tool cannot safely identify the PS3 input or conversion path, it should stop, skip, or warn the user instead of continuing blindly.

This behavior is intentional.
