CatScope v0.6.0-preview is the first release-preparation preview for the lightweight Android Logcat debugging workbench. This version focuses on making the current MVP usable as a Windows preview build, with live Logcat, offline logs, sessions, analyzers, local AI Context generation, and basic Build / Install / Launch workflows.

This is a preview release. CatScope is not an Android Studio replacement, and several IDE-level features are intentionally out of scope.

Highlights

  • Lightweight Android Logcat workbench for Windows.
  • Live Logcat streaming through local adb.
  • Offline .txt, .log, .jsonl, and .catscope-session workflows.
  • Rule-based Java Crash, Native Crash, ANR, JNI Error, and Install Error Analyzer.
  • Local AI Context Markdown generation without external AI API calls.
  • Basic Build / Install / Launch helper workflow for Android Gradle wrapper projects.
  • Release preparation scripts and documentation for GitHub Releases.

Features

  • ADB discovery from configured path, ANDROID_HOME, ANDROID_SDK_ROOT, and PATH.
  • Device list parsing with device, offline, unauthorized, and unknown states.
  • Device details including model, brand, Android version, SDK, ABI, and emulator detection.
  • Live adb logcat -v threadtime -b main,system,crash streaming.
  • 100000-line ring buffer with dropped-line tracking.
  • Virtualized log table for large sessions.
  • Search, Level, Tag, Exclude, Regex, Package, and PID Tracking filters.
  • Package selector with third-party package mode.
  • Multiline Java stacktrace merging and threadtime parsing.
  • TXT and JSONL export.
  • Offline Log File Viewer for .txt, .log, and .jsonl.
  • Session save and restore with .catscope-session.
  • Analysis Tab for rule-based crash and install diagnostics.
  • Local AI Context copy/export as Markdown.
  • Workspace and Filter Preset persistence through local config.json.
  • Basic Build / Install / Launch:
    • detect gradlew / gradlew.bat;
    • run assembleDebug by default;
    • find latest debug APK;
    • install with adb;
    • launch package with adb shell monkey.

Windows Notes

  • This preview build targets Windows.
  • Microsoft WebView2 Runtime is required.
  • Android SDK Platform Tools are required for live device workflows.
  • adb must be available through PATH, ANDROID_HOME, ANDROID_SDK_ROOT, or CatScope configuration.
  • On first USB connection, authorize USB debugging on the Android device.
  • The preview executable is unsigned, so Windows SmartScreen may show a warning.

Requirements

  • Windows 10 / Windows 11.
  • Microsoft WebView2 Runtime.
  • Android SDK Platform Tools.
  • Android device or emulator with USB debugging enabled for Live Logcat.
  • No device is required for Offline Log File Viewer or Session mode.

Installation

  1. Download the Windows portable zip from this release.
  2. Extract the zip.
  3. Run CatScope.exe.
  4. Connect an Android device and authorize USB debugging, or open an offline log/session file.

Privacy

  • CatScope reads logs through local adb.
  • Offline logs and sessions are read from local disk only.
  • Workspace and filter settings are stored locally in CatScope configuration.
  • AI Context is generated locally as Markdown.
  • CatScope does not upload logs.
  • CatScope does not call OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, or any external AI API.

Known Issues

  • CatScope is not a complete IDE.
  • CatScope is not an Android Studio replacement.
  • Gradle Project Sync is not supported.
  • Code editing is not supported.
  • Module and variant selection for Build / Install / Launch is still basic.
  • Launcher activity automatic parsing is not complete.
  • External AI APIs are not integrated.
  • Large .catscope-session files are not compressed or split.
  • Vite may print a chunk size warning during frontend builds; this does not currently block use.
  • The Windows preview build is unsigned.
