Changes to note

  • A task cut short by a server restart, or by the gateway shutting down, now ends failed with an error that says so: {"type": "harness_error", "code": "harness_error", "detail": {"reason": "interrupted"}} and a plain sentence. A task past the hard time limit says "reason": "timeout". Before, such a task could end failed with no error, or completed with no output.
  • On self-hosted installs, the files an interrupted task wrote survive a recreated container (docker compose down/up, an upgrade), and a follow-up continues the work. The checkpoint markers now live on the data volume (HR_WS_MARKER_DIR, which the entrypoint sets to /data/ws-markers).
  • A task restoring a large workspace keeps its heartbeat, so it is never taken for a dead one while it starts. The hard time limit is now the runner's limit plus a 30-minute margin (HARNESS_CAP_MARGIN_S), counted from when the task started.
  • grok streams its answer word by word when partial messages are on (HARNESS_STREAM_PARTIAL=1 or metadata.stream_partial).
  • Trace context: a caller's W3C traceparent and tracestate reach the agent's environment (TRACEPARENT), and every model call carries a child traceparent. A malformed value is dropped, never refused.
  • The conformance suite at this tag is 2026.10.19.post3, with T-12, which measures the step budget.

Known items

  • The hard-limit path with its margin (a task whose gateway stopped watching it while the runner kept working) is covered by tests on scaled time. It was not exercised live on the release candidates.
