RSVP Reader v0.2

Choose a tag to compare

@HawkOsm HawkOsm released this 29 Sep 14:12

A full rewrite of RSVP Reader: one TypeScript/React codebase for web, desktop and Android, replacing v0.1's three separate apps (PyQt6 desktop, vanilla-JS web, Kotlin Android).

What's new

  • One app everywhere: desktop apps built with Tauri (the Windows installer is 2.7 MB, down from 55.5 MB; macOS 7.3 MB, down from 49.8 MB), an Android APK built with Capacitor, and an installable web app (PWA) that works offline.
  • EPUB support, alongside TXT and PDF. Files are parsed off the UI thread.
  • Selectable PDF text: in book mode, text on the rendered page can be selected and copied.
  • Fully local: no account, no telemetry, and your books never leave the device. The Android build declares no permissions.

Book mode, the library with resume, and the RSVP reader itself carry over from v0.1.

Downloads

  • Linux: rsvp-reader-linux-x86_64.AppImage — make it executable (chmod +x) and run it.
  • Windows: rsvp-reader-windows-x86_64-setup.exe
  • macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel): rsvp-reader-macos-universal.dmg
  • Android: rsvp-reader.apk

Notes

  • Binaries are unsigned, so macOS and Windows will warn on first run.
  • The Android APK is sideloaded (not on the Play Store). Android will ask you to allow installs from this source.
  • The old PyQt6 app is still available as v0.1.
