Hearthlight 1.1 — smoother, prettier, and nothing left to get stuck on. A cozy pixel-art life in Marigold Cove and a big adventure beyond it, alone or with up to eight friends.

Play

  • In your browser, nothing to install: https://hearthlight.github.io
  • The desktop app (below): the same game in its own window, and Party Mode works offline — phones join over your Wi-Fi.
System File
Mac (Apple silicon & Intel) Hearthlight-1.1.0-universal.dmg
Windows Hearthlight-Setup-1.1.0.exe
Linux Hearthlight-1.1.0-x86_64.AppImage

The apps aren't signed, so the first time:

  • Mac: right-click Hearthlight in Applications → Open → Open (recent macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway).
  • Windows: SmartScreen « Windows protected your PC » → More info → Run anyway.
  • Linux: chmod +x Hearthlight-*.AppImage, then run it.

Checksums are in the SHA256SUMS-*.txt files.

What's new since 1.0

The story runs straight through

  • Two soft-locks fixed: the chapter 6 regatta (a buoy lay in a sea that wasn't open yet) and the chapter 7 Mime Troupe (gone after a reload). All ten chapters were replayed start to finish.
  • A dungeon you had to leave keeps its door open (« Back into… »); a knock-out in a ring or a dungeon puts you back on your feet there for another try; no night falls in a dungeon; passing out in the wild wakes you by the nearest waystone.
  • A lone hero is no longer walled off by a level gap; waystones never send you into the Murk; Tariq waits by his boat.

Less fiddly

  • Actions work without picking anything in the hotbar first: plant, water, fish, catch fireflies, enter the dark grotto, give a gift (a new « Give a gift… » lists your bag). Your pet no longer steals the button.
  • Every panel has a clear way out (a Close button, Esc, B or a tap outside); long shop lists scroll; the volume bars follow a drag.
  • « Stuck? » comes forward only when you really are (never in the water), with the way out one tap away.
  • Party Mode: votes end as soon as the result is certain, the crown waits for a sleeping phone and comes back to its host, the join card has a bigger QR code and a « Copy the invitation link » button.

On a phone

  • A bigger interface (a quarter larger on an iPhone), touch controls from the first screen, taller rows to tap, touch wording everywhere.

Prettier

  • New trees: round crowns of leafy tufts on real trunks, blossoming cherries, arching palms.
  • The valley waterfall tips off the rock's edge; campfires burn orange with glowing coals; street lamps glow amber.

Lighter

  • About a third of the draw calls (shadows fitted to the view), beaten foes free their memory, a calmer phone controller that spares batteries.

Online

  • The party server can be updated while people play: parties keep their code and everyone reconnects in a few seconds.
