Highlights

  • Added a customizable global shortcut that opens a dedicated always-on-top host switcher, even when the main DisplayMux window is minimized or hidden.
  • The host switcher supports mouse selection, Tab, Shift+Tab, Up and Down navigation, Enter to confirm, and Escape to close.
  • Windows and macOS display Ctrl, Windows, Command, and Option keys according to each platform's conventions.

Shortcut safety

  • DisplayMux attempts to register a shortcut immediately after recording it to detect operating-system-level conflicts.
  • The shortcut is checked again when settings are saved. If registration fails, the previous working shortcut remains active.
  • Common application shortcuts such as Ctrl+W and Ctrl+S are rejected to avoid conflicts with browsers and other frequently used software.
  • Windows shortcuts must include Ctrl, while macOS shortcuts must include Command. Additional modifiers are limited to reduce accidental activation.

Release History improvements

  • Fixed GitHub Release links in Help so they open correctly in the system browser.
  • Release History now synchronizes published GitHub Releases automatically and displays the newest version first.
  • Built-in release information remains available when GitHub cannot be reached.

Compatibility

  • Global shortcuts and the host switcher support Windows 10/11 and macOS 12 or later.
  • Existing settings are migrated automatically. The global shortcut remains disabled by default until the user enables it.

Known limitations

  • Application-local shortcuts are not always registered as operating-system Global Hotkeys. DisplayMux blocks common combinations, but cannot maintain a complete list of shortcuts used internally by every third-party application.
  • The macOS DMG is ad-hoc signed but not notarized with an Apple Developer ID, so Gatekeeper may require manual approval.
  • Some MST, DisplayLink, and Silicon Motion docks do not forward DDC/CI. Software cannot restore control signals that the hardware does not expose.
