Early, incomplete release. Windows only. See the README for known issues before playing.

The first public release of the Breakdown recompilation: a native Windows build of Breakdown (Xbox, Namco, 2004), recompiled from your own copy of the game. No game data is included — on first run the launcher asks for your Breakdown (USA) disc image and builds the game from it, on your computer.

In 0.2.2

• Brightness matches the original game. The picture used to be too bright, with faces washed out. The game's own gamma ramp was never being applied; it is now, and the Options slider's Original setting (the middle) was calibrated against the original game on Windows. Move it left for darker, right to lift the dark parts.
• Options page: brightness, full screen, and a choice of saved-games folder.
• Borderless full screen: F11, Alt+Enter or Options, and it's remembered. The 4:3 picture keeps its shape, with black bars on widescreen monitors.
• Controller support in the menus (D-pad/stick, A to choose, B to go back), plus an About page with credits.
• Earlier rendering and audio fixes.

Known issues

• In some rooms the background music plays a short repeating fragment instead of the music. Turning the BGM slider down in the game's sound settings silences it.
• Loading after dying and choosing Retry can take a long time.
• Some textures appear a moment late.

Running it

Extract the zip and keep the folder together (Breakdown.exe needs tools\ beside it). Run Breakdown.exe; if Windows warns about an unknown publisher, choose More info → Run anyway. Pick your disc image, wait for the one-time build (a few minutes, ~6 GB free space), then press Play. Needs Windows 10/11 64-bit and a Direct3D 11 GPU.

Logs for bug reports are in %LOCALAPPDATA%\BreakdownRecomp\logs.
