@enkhbold470 enkhbold470 released this 21 Oct 05:51
  • New open_kicad_project: binds a KiCad project folder on your computer to one HeyPCB project. Before each HeyPCB call on that project, a changed folder is uploaded against its last synced revision. After a call that changes the design, the changed files come back, and the old ones are copied to .heypcb/backup/<revision>/ first. If you save a file in KiCad while a call runs, it is left alone: HeyPCB's version goes beside it as <file>.heypcb-new, and syncing waits until you pick on_conflict: "take_heypcb" or "keep_local". Files listed in .heypcbignore are never uploaded.
  • New restore_local: lists those backups and copies one back.
  • New check_local and export_local: KiCad's own DRC and ERC, plus Gerbers with drill files, BOM, pick-and-place and STEP, run on the project on disk with kicad-cli (KiCad 8 or newer). Free, no network. A KiCad report this version can't read is refused instead of counted as zero findings.
  • --max-spend <amount> and per-call _meta.heypcb.maxCost: the server can't enforce spending caps yet, so with either set, calls that may be charged are refused before they're sent. Free reads and the local tools still work. Without a cap, nothing changes.
  • If the reply to an edit is lost (timeout, dropped connection, gateway 5xx), the call returns write_outcome_unknown with inspectWith, the read to make before trying again. It never repeats the edit on its own.
  • whoami shows this session's charges when the server reports them.
  • The offline tool catalog lists 24 more tools, including preview_board, inspect_net, inspect_part, check_placement, preview_placement, list_history, restore_board, redo, add_pour, add_keepout, stitch_vias, tune_lengths, get_guide and stop_turn.
  • install_parts is built but hidden until the API serves part assets. Calling it directly refuses without writing anything.
  • CI: a kicad job runs the local tools against kicad-cli 8.0 and 9.0.

  • Running npx @heypcb/mcp by hand in a terminal now prints how to add it to your agent and sign in, instead of waiting silently for an MCP client. The same hint is printed if stdin closes before any message arrives.
  • Smoke test covering that hint.

  • The offline tool catalog (shown before you sign in) now lists the design harness: parts and circuit tools (search_parts, get_part, add_parts, add_block, connect, get_netlist, get_capable_pins, …) and board layout tools (set_board_outline, set_board_rules, move_part, lock_parts, add_ground_pour, get_board_layout, …).
  • README: how your own agent can design a board with these tools. They're free and rate-limited per account.

First tagged release on GitHub (0.1.0 and 0.1.1 were published to npm only). @heypcb/mcp is a local stdio MCP server that proxies HeyPCB's remote MCP server and adds two local tools:

  • upload_kicad_project: send a KiCad project folder from this computer to HeyPCB as a new project.
  • save_export: save Gerbers, BOM, CPL, STEP or the KiCad project into a local folder.
