Keepfin v0.5.5-beta.2
Keepfin v0.5.5-beta.2
The second test version of 0.5.5, with fixes from the first round of testing. Install it over beta 1; your library, history, settings and files carry over.
Windows
- The Library page shows everything: your spaces, playlists and collections, with a filter row (All · Spaces · Playlists · Collections · Albums · Artists · Videos). The separate Collections view is gone, and every page you open has a way back to the Library.
- Finished downloads play in Keepfin. A finished song or video has a Play button, and clicking its picture plays it too. "Open in another app" is in the ⋯ menu. In Downloader only mode, Open still uses your default app.
- Grid view shows albums and playlists as cards, the same size as single downloads, with the cover, the number of items and the album or playlist label.
- Collapse the sidebar to icons with the button next to the logo, or Ctrl+B. Keepfin remembers your choice.
- Resize the Now playing and queue panel by dragging its edge. Double-click the edge to reset it.
- The Windows media panel shows the real cover of the song or video that's playing instead of a black square.
- The "Your library" filters sit on one tidy row, the selected space shows its icon again, and the bottom of the sidebar has clear "Support Keepfin" and theme buttons.
- Clicking the Keepfin logo opens Home.
- Lyrics have their own icon instead of a microphone.
Android
- Swiping between songs keeps working when you swipe quickly several times in a row. A new swipe no longer picks up movement from the one before it.
- Finished downloads play in Keepfin when you tap them. "Open in another app" is in the menu.
- Playlist, album and artist pages blend the artwork colour into the top bar, which turns solid with the title as you scroll. Play and Shuffle always show their full names.
- Rows on Home and Library keep the same height when they mix videos and music, so nothing jumps while you scroll sideways.
Both apps
- The Downloads page lists the sites Keepfin works with: YouTube, YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, SoundCloud, Bandcamp, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, X, Reddit, Vimeo, Twitch, Pinterest and 1,000+ more.
Keepfin v0.5.5-beta.1
Keepfin v0.5.5-beta.1
The first test version of 0.5.5: a new look built around downloading, more exact music matching, and one shared engine that makes Windows and Android decide everything the same way. Install it over 0.5.0; your library, history, settings and files carry over. Betas come through Settings › Updates › Update channel › Beta, and switching back to Stable never removes anything.
A new look, with downloading first
- Home opens with one big box: paste a link to download it, or type to search. Below it, All · Videos · Music · Photos filters what you see, then your recent items, Continue watching, rows made from your listening, what's downloading now, and new videos and photos. Rows you have nothing for stay hidden.
- Search finds songs, videos, albums, artists, playlists and posts in your library first, and offers to search YouTube for anything else.
- Choose how you use Keepfin. New installs ask once: Downloader only (just paste, pick the quality and find the file, no library or player) or Downloader + library & player. Change it any time in Settings › General › Keepfin mode. Your current setting is kept.
- Album, artist and playlist pages have a large cover with a colour band taken from the artwork, Play and Shuffle, and the total time and size.
- One menu everywhere. Right-click or ⋯ on Windows, and long-press or ⋯ on Android, show the same actions for an item wherever you are. Actions that don't apply say why.
Windows
- One sidebar: Home, Search, Library and Downloads (with a live count), then your spaces, playlists, albums and artists. It folds to icons on narrow windows. Settings and Activity sit at the top.
- The player bar has a favourite heart, the file format, a Lyrics button and a Now playing panel with what's up next. Lyrics open full width.
- Speed, sleep timer and output fit in one short panel.
- Scroll the mouse wheel over the volume to change it, in the music player and the video player.
- Fixed: dragging a song in the queue (or a playlist) moves it instead of showing "Drop to inspect".
Android
- A bottom bar with Home, Search, Library and Downloads (with a count), and a + Download button on Home and Library.
- When you open Keepfin with a link copied, it offers once to download it. Turn this off in Settings if you prefer.
- The full player takes its colours from the artwork and shows the current lyric line under the controls. Song info shows where a song came from.
- A Pure black option for the dark theme, and Material You colours are labelled as such.
- Subtitles you download are saved as SRT files, which more players understand.
- Quality labels read like Windows ("1080p · MP4", "MP3 · 320 kbps").
Music
- Albums match exactly. A Spotify, Apple Music or Deezer album is matched track by track to the same album on YouTube Music, and the release year picks the right edition. A single track link finds its album too.
- Other versions of a song with the same length, such as a Drumless Edition, a cappella or demo, are no longer picked instead of the original.
Downloads
- Long titles are short now. Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and other posts that use their whole caption as a title get its first line, without view counts, links or hashtags, cut at a word.
- When you open a playlist or album, every song is selected so you can download it straight away. Channels and endless mixes still start empty.
- After you download from a playlist or album, its review closes instead of staying on screen.
- The expected size of an audio download shows before it starts.
Both apps decide the same way
- Windows and Android now share one engine for reading links, choosing formats and sizes, building downloads, reading progress, explaining errors, spotting songs you already have, sorting into spaces and checking versions. Each decision is tested against the same cases on both apps.
- Songs you already have are recognised the same way on both apps. An artist such as "Feather" is no longer split as a "feat." credit.
- Smart spaces match album names regardless of accents.
Update notes
- This is a beta: please report anything that looks wrong. It installs over 0.5.0 on both Windows and Android.
Keepfin v0.5.0
Keepfin v0.5.0
Keepfin is now a library and a player too. Everything you save gets a home, playlists can stay in sync on their own, and you can watch and listen without leaving the app.
Your library
- Spaces keep your media organised: Music, Videos and Downloads to start, plus any space you create, such as "Watch later". Each space has its own folder, subfolders, file names, color and icon.
- Save to sits next to every Download button. Links from YouTube Music, Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer go to Music, and everything else goes to Downloads. In any space, + Add › From a link downloads straight into it.
- Collections. Every playlist, album or channel you download stays together in its original order. Play one collection or the whole space, and move or copy it to another space. Your own playlists live here too.
- Tags and smart spaces. Tags come from the source site, and you can add your own. A smart space gathers items from everywhere by rules (tags, collections, source, artist, kind or date added) without moving any files.
- Library home with Continue watching, Recently added, Recently played and Favorites. Browse music by songs, albums, artists and playlists; videos show as posters with progress bars; photos open full screen. Search, sort, filter, grid or list, and select several items to move or delete.
- Songs you already have are not downloaded twice. Playlists mark them "Already in Music" before you download.
- Add files brings songs and videos you already have into a space. The library only shows what Keepfin saved or what you add, never your whole drive or phone.
- Edit info fixes a title, artist, album or cover. Rename and move files between spaces safely.
- Turn the library off in Settings › Library to go back to the plain downloader. Nothing on disk changes.
Keep playlists in sync
- Turn on Keep in sync when you download a playlist or channel, and Keepfin checks it on a schedule you pick and downloads only the new items. Songs you deleted or removed are never downloaded again, and big batches wait for you to review them.
- Check now tells you what it found ("Found 3 new songs in Gym Mix"), and the collection shows the new songs downloading.
A player that feels alive
- Music: a player bar on every tab that grows into the full player as one surface, a queue you can reorder, shuffle and repeat, favorites and playlists, a sleep timer, playback speed, even volume between songs, and media keys and lock-screen controls.
- Lyrics are looked up on LRCLIB, a free lyrics library, when a song finishes downloading and saved with it. Timed lyrics glide along in the player. On by default: Settings › Downloads › Add lyrics to songs.
- Video: resume where you left off, chapters and subtitles, speed and audio track choice, picture-in-picture and fullscreen, A-B loop and Up next.
- Play and pause change shape smoothly, the playing song shows moving bars, and the seek bar grows under your finger with the time. Everything is instant when your system's reduce-motion setting is on.
Activity and help
- Activity. A bell at the top shows what Keepfin did for you: new songs from synced playlists, finished playlists, failed downloads, updates and sign-ins that need attention. Opening an entry marks it read. Come back after a few days and a short notice tells you what happened.
- Features & how-to. Every feature with the steps to use it, searchable, with "Try it" to jump there.
- Updates are easy to spot: a short popup when a new version is out (Update now, Later or Skip) and an Update channel choice of Stable or Beta in Settings › Updates.
Faster, calmer downloads
- Playlists download as many songs at once as your Parallel downloads setting allows. If YouTube starts limiting your network, Keepfin drops to two at a time for 30 minutes, then goes back. On Android the setting now starts at 3.
- Failed songs in a playlist download each have Remove, and the playlist has Retry failed and Remove failed. Saved files are never touched.
- One "Saved" notice when a batch finishes instead of one per song, and finished downloads stay under the Finished filter in Downloads.
Windows
- Video player keyboard shortcuts, picture adjustments, aspect and crop modes, frame screenshots and a choice of audio output device.
- Crossfade between songs, up to 12 seconds.
- MKV videos that Windows can play are prepared once, losslessly, and then play in Keepfin.
- Drag files onto a space to add them, drag items out to other apps, and export playlists as M3U8.
Android
- Music keeps playing in the background with notification, lock screen, headset and Android Auto controls, and resumes after a restart. Tapping the media card opens the player.
- Swipe the cover or mini player for the next or previous song, as many times in a row as you like, with shuffle on or off. Swiping right goes straight to the previous song, and the start or end of the queue tells you so. Swipe the player down to shrink or close it. The mini player has Previous and close buttons.
- Equalizer with presets and bass boost, and video gestures: double-tap to seek, swipe for brightness and volume.
- Settings are grouped into sections, each with its own page.
- "Find my earlier Keepfin files" brings back files saved before a reinstall.
Update notes
- Your history, settings and files carry over from 0.4.2. Your current download folder becomes the Downloads space.
- Coming from beta 4: swiping between songs no longer stops working after a couple of swipes (especially with shuffle on), and Activity entries lose their dot as soon as you open them.
Keepfin v0.5.0-beta.4
Keepfin v0.5.0-beta.4
The fourth test version of the next big update. Install it over beta 3; your library, history, settings and files carry over. Betas come through Settings › Updates › Update channel › Beta, and switching back to Stable never removes anything.
New
- Activity. A bell at the top shows what Keepfin did for you: new songs from playlists you keep in sync, finished playlists, downloads that failed, updates and sign-ins that need attention. When you come back after a while, a short notice tells you how many things happened.
- Lyrics for your songs. Keepfin looks up lyrics on LRCLIB, a free lyrics library, when a song finishes downloading and saves them with the song. Timed lyrics follow along in the player. It's on by default: Settings › Downloads › Add lyrics to songs.
- Keep in sync, when you choose it. Downloaded playlists and channels no longer follow their link on their own. Turn on Keep in sync right on the download screen, pick how often, or switch it on later in Follow settings. Playlists you already follow keep their setting.
- Check now tells you what it found. "Found 3 new songs in Gym Mix", or "No new songs", appears in the app. The collection page shows the new songs downloading.
- Download straight into a space. In any space, + Add › From a link opens the download screen with that space already chosen.
A player that feels alive
- The mini player grows into the full player as one surface. Drag it up to open and down to close.
- Play and pause change shape smoothly, and the song that's playing shows moving bars in the list.
- The seek bar grows when you press it and shows the time under your finger. On Windows, the volume slider stretches when you drag past the end.
- Lyrics glide so the current line stays in the middle.
- Everything is instant when your system's reduce-motion setting is on.
Android
- The mini player has a Previous button.
Fixed
- Settings and layout checks are steadier on slower computers.
Keepfin v0.5.0-beta.3
Keepfin v0.5.0-beta.3
The third test version of the next big update. Install it over beta 2; your library, history, settings and files carry over. Betas come through Settings › Updates › Update channel › Beta, and switching back to Stable never removes anything.
New
- Features & how-to. Every feature with the steps to use it, searchable, with "Try it" to jump there. Find it in Settings, on Library home and in What's new.
- Move or copy a playlist or album to another space from its menu, or with + Add in the space you want it in.
- Swipe the music player (Android). Swipe the cover or the mini player left or right for the next or previous song. Swipe the full player down to shrink it, and the mini player down to close it.
- The lock screen and media card open the player (Android). Tapping the media card now opens Keepfin on the song that is playing.
- Every library list has its options. All collections gets New collection, sorting and a filter (playlists, albums, channels, yours). All spaces, albums, artists and "See all" lists get Play, Shuffle and Select.
- Remove failed songs from a playlist download. Each failed or waiting song has Remove, and the playlist has Remove failed. Saved files are never touched, and a followed playlist won't download a removed song again.
Faster playlists
- YouTube and YouTube Music playlists now download as many songs at once as your Parallel downloads setting allows. If YouTube starts limiting your network, Keepfin drops to two at a time for 30 minutes, then goes back to your setting.
- On Android, Parallel downloads now starts at 3 instead of 2. If you chose a number yourself, it stays.
Quieter notices
- One "Saved" notice when a batch finishes instead of one per song. A new notice replaces the old one, and every notice has a close button. On Android you can also swipe it away.
- The mini player has a close button: it stops the music and hides the bar.
Fixed
- On Windows, saving the library could rarely fail when two saves overlapped.
Keepfin v0.5.0-beta.2
Keepfin v0.5.0-beta.2
This is the second test version of the next big update. Install it over beta 1; your library, history, settings and files carry over. If you want betas, choose Settings › Updates › Update channel › Beta. If you switch back to Stable, nothing is removed: you move to the next stable version when it's released.
New: Spaces that organise themselves
- Collections. Every playlist, album or channel you download stays together as a collection, in its original order. Play one collection or the whole space. Your own playlists live here too, marked "Yours".
- Follow a playlist or channel. Keepfin checks it every 6 hours (on Wi-Fi, on Android) and downloads only the new items. Songs you deleted or skipped are never downloaded again. More than 20 new items wait for you to review them. You can choose "Check now" only, or switch following off.
- Tags. Tags come from the source site, and you can add your own. Filter a space by one or more tags and play the result.
- Smart spaces. A space can gather items from everywhere by rules: tags, collections, source, artist, kind or date added. No files move.
- Colors and icons for every space.
- A tidier Library home. It shows your pinned spaces as compact cards, with "All spaces" for the rest. Edit spaces right in the same grid: drag to reorder (built-in spaces too), pin, and add a new space.
- Add from your library. "Add" on a space now offers your songs, videos and collections first, to move or copy them in. Files from your device are still an option.
Also new
- Update channel: Stable or Beta, in Settings › Updates.
- Open Keepfin on: Downloads, Library or "Where I left off".
- Settings pages show a clear way back.
Fixed
- On Android, the Library tab could close the app after you deleted every song. Fixed.
- Deleting many items now shows progress and a result.
- Downloaded playlists now appear in the Library as collections.
- Downloads history shows when saved files were deleted ("Deleted", or "2 of 5 files removed").
- On Android, songs with featured artists ("feat.") now match the right YouTube Music recording.
- On Android, size estimates no longer count some audio twice.
- Radio mixes opened from a song load again.
- The Windows and Android apps now make the same choices for formats, errors and links. A shared set of checks keeps them identical.
Keepfin v0.5.0-beta.1
Keepfin v0.5.0 beta 1
This is a test version of the next big update. Install it over your current app; your history, settings and files carry over. When the final 0.5.0 is out, Keepfin offers it as a normal update.
Keepfin is now a library and a player too. Everything you save gets a home, and you can watch and listen without leaving the app.
Both platforms
-
Spaces keep your media organised: Music, Videos and Downloads to start, plus any space you create, such as "Watch later". Each space has its own folder, subfolders and file names.

-
Downloads now holds finished downloads too, under the Finished filter. Library is only for your files.
-
Turn the whole library off in Settings › Library to go back to the plain downloader. Nothing on disk changes.
-
Updates are easy to spot: a short popup when a new version is out (Update now, Later, or Skip this version) and a banner you can hide.
-
Collections with a failed item show up as soon as nothing is downloading, with "9 saved · 1 failed", Retry failed, and the failed items listed first.
-
Select all wherever you can select several items.
-
Smaller items by default so more fits on screen, with a Comfortable option per space.
Windows
- Keyboard shortcuts in the video player, plus picture adjustments, aspect and crop modes, frame screenshots, and a choice of audio output device.
- Crossfade between songs, up to 12 seconds.
- MKV videos that Windows can play are prepared once, losslessly, and then play in Keepfin.

-

-
Video gestures: double-tap to seek, swipe for brightness and volume.
-
"Find my earlier Keepfin files" brings back files saved before a reinstall.
Update notes
- Your history, settings and files carry over. Your current download folder becomes the Downloads space.
Keepfin v0.4.2
Keepfin v0.4.2
Songs that YouTube blocks in your region now download anyway.
Both platforms
- Some YouTube Music songs, often "Topic" tracks, are blocked by YouTube for listeners without an account in certain regions, even though they play in the YouTube Music app. Keepfin now recognises this and saves the same song from another upload of it, with the original title, artist and album cover. The download shows "Saved from another upload of this song".
- Pasting a link to one of these songs works too: the review shows the original song and downloads it from another upload.
- When no other copy exists, the download fails at once with a clear explanation and the option to sign in to YouTube, instead of retrying three times with "Retrying may help".
Update notes
- Your history, settings and files carry over from 0.4.1.
Keepfin v0.4.1
Keepfin v0.4.1
Playlists now stay together, failed downloads retry on their own, and music gets proper album covers.
Both platforms
- Playlists, albums and channels can be kept together: one entry in Downloads and Library with the source link, overall progress such as "8 of 12 done", and actions for the whole set. Choose Separate items before downloading to keep the old behaviour.
- Downloads that fail for temporary reasons retry automatically up to three times, and the row shows the countdown. A download waiting to retry never holds up the others. If the download engine looks like the cause, Keepfin updates it before retrying.
- When YouTube limits downloads from your network, Keepfin says so, waits longer between retries and slows down the playlist instead of failing song after song.
- Error messages are more accurate: "removed" only appears when the site says the media was removed, and failed downloads have Error details with a copy button.
- YouTube Music links default to audio, with a setting to prefer video.
- Music gets square album covers. Songs from Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer links get the original album art as well as the original title, artist and album.
- One notification per playlist when it finishes, for example "11 of 12 saved, 1 failed", and downloads that finish together share one notification.
- Opening a download from a notification jumps to it once and then leaves scrolling to you.
- Settings has one Updates page: Keepfin itself, and the download engine, which updates automatically.
Windows
- The download engine's version no longer sits in the sidebar; it only appears when it needs attention.
Android
- Downloads keep running at full speed in the background and with the screen off, and the progress notification appears as soon as a download starts.
- New empty screens for Downloads, Library and searches with no results.
- Notifications show the Keepfin icon.
Update notes
- Playlist artwork now also appears for personal YouTube Music playlists that don't include it.
- Your history, settings and files carry over from 0.4.0.
Keepfin v0.4.0
Keepfin v0.4.0
Keepfin: a new download engine and a redesigned interface on Windows and Android.
Both platforms
- New self-updating download engine, kept current automatically, with a stable or nightly channel and a manual update button in Settings.
- A real format picker lists resolution, frame rate, HDR and codec, with an estimated size that includes the audio track.
- Audio downloads as MP3, M4A, Opus, FLAC or WAV, with cover art and tags.
- Parallel downloads, with pause and resume.
- Playlists, channels, albums and mixes load progressively in pages, with selection and Load more. YouTube Music playlists no longer load forever.
- Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer links are matched to recordings on YouTube Music and tagged with the original metadata. No audio comes from those services, and a match may not always be the exact recording.
- Private and age-restricted content works through sign-in or cookies.
- Subtitles, SponsorBlock, chapters and trim options.
- Friendlier error messages with suggested fixes.
- An app-update indicator in the header, and What's new after updating.
- Redesigned interface.
- A Support page, if you would like to back Keepfin's development.
Windows
- YouTube JavaScript challenges are solved with the app's built-in runtime, so full format lists are available.
- Image posts and galleries download through the built-in gallery engine.
- Use cookies from Firefox or other browsers. Firefox is the most reliable; Chromium-based browsers can lock or encrypt their cookies on Windows.
- Proxy and speed-limit settings.
- Optional Turbo transfer, off by default.
- Drag and drop links, or paste with Ctrl+V, to capture them.
- A verified engine is bundled in the installer, so the first run works without downloading tools.
Android
- Rebuilt with Jetpack Compose and Material 3, including dynamic color.
- Smoother progress: download rows update individually, with no list refreshes or thumbnail flicker.
- In-app sign-in for YouTube, Instagram, X, Facebook, TikTok and more.
- Sizes are shown on every quality.
- Optional multi-connection transfers, off by default.
- A Wi-Fi only option.
Update notes
- Provider behavior, sign-in requirements and speeds can still vary by site and change over time. The built-in engine updater helps keep downloads working.
