Release list
ReVLC 0.2.2-alpha
Security and stability fixes. Both platforms are on 0.2.2.
Security
- libVLC 3.0.24, which fixes over 50 security issues in VLC 3.0.23 and earlier.
- Playlist files can no longer turn on unsafe VLC options, such as saving or sending the stream elsewhere.
- Tighter limits on what the app's interface can load.
Fixes
- No more crash on videos shorter than a second (including in a library folder).
- The library loads without freezing the window; a file in two library folders shows once.
- Remote playlists play every entry, not just the first.
- Picking another video just as one ends no longer skips it or marks it watched.
- Closing the player window quits ReVLC, even with Settings open.
- Reordering the queue by dragging works on Windows.
- Embedded cover art and network-share paths work on Windows.
- Settings, bookmarks and the library report it when they can't be saved, and saving can no longer corrupt them.
Note: YouTube links no longer play. VLC 3.0.24 removed its YouTube support because it was broken.
Install
- Windows: download
ReVLC-0.2.2-alpha-x64-setup.exeand run it. If SmartScreen warns about it, choose More info → Run anyway. - macOS (Apple Silicon): download the
.dmgand drag ReVLC to Applications. The first time, right-click ReVLC and choose Open. - Already on 0.2.0 or 0.2.1? ReVLC updates itself: the new version downloads in the background and installs when you restart.
ReVLC 0.2.1-alpha: Windows
ReVLC is now on Windows. The same player, on macOS and on Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit), with libVLC bundled. Both platforms are on 0.2.1.
Windows
- Download
ReVLC-0.2.1-alpha-x64-setup.exeand run it. It installs for your user account; no admin rights needed. - The installer isn't code-signed yet. If SmartScreen warns about it, choose More info → Run anyway.

.dmgand drag ReVLC to Applications. Builds aren't notarised yet: the first time, right-click ReVLC and choose Open. - Already on 0.2.0? ReVLC updates itself.
On both, new versions download in the background and install when you restart (Settings → General → Updates).
ReVLC 0.2.0 alpha
The biggest update yet: everything under Playback, Opening media and Playlist in the parity checklist is done.
Install
Already on 0.1.2? ReVLC updates itself; you'll see a banner when 0.2.0 is ready.
Otherwise:

- Builds aren't notarised yet, so the first time, right-click ReVLC and choose Open, or run
xattr -cr /Applications/ReVLC.app.
What's new
Playback
- Jump to time (⌘T, or click the clock).
- A–B loop (⇧L sets A, then B, then clears). The loop shows on the seek bar.
- Chapters and titles in the player menu, with ⇧N / ⇧P for next and previous chapter, and DVD and Blu-ray menus you can navigate with the arrow keys.
- Bookmarks (⌘B), saved per file and marked on the seek bar.
- Sleep timer: pause after 15–90 minutes, or stop at the end of the current item.
Opening media
- Open Disc (⌘D): DVD with or without menus, Blu-ray, audio CD, VCD and disc images.
- Capture devices: play a camera, microphone or screen live.
Playlists and library
- Open and save M3U, PLS and XSPF playlists (⌘S saves the queue).
- Search and sort the queue.
- The library reads show names, seasons, episode titles, years and durations from your files, picks up posters (
poster.jpg,folder.jpgand similar), and groups shows by season.
Also
- Settings only offer "Restore defaults" on pages you've changed.
Known issues
- Disc playback hasn't been tested with physical drives yet; please report what you find.
- HDR is tone-mapped to SDR (true HDR on XDR displays is planned).
ReVLC 0.1.2 alpha
ReVLC now keeps itself up to date.
Install
- Download
ReVLC-0.1.2-alpha-arm64.dmgbelow (macOS 11+, Apple Silicon). - Open it and drag ReVLC to Applications, replacing the old version.
- Builds aren't notarised yet, so the first time, right-click ReVLC and choose Open, or run
xattr -cr /Applications/ReVLC.app.
This is the last version you need to download by hand. From here on, ReVLC updates itself, and updates don't need the right-click → Open step.
What's new
- Automatic updates. ReVLC checks for new versions when it starts and every few hours. New versions download and install in the background, and a banner offers to restart when one is ready. It never restarts on its own while you're watching.
- Turn it off in Settings → General → Updates; you'll still be told when an update is available.
- Check any time from ReVLC → Check for Updates….
- Updates are cryptographically signed, and ReVLC only installs ones signed by the project.
Known issues
- HDR is tone-mapped to SDR (true HDR on XDR displays is planned).
- Subtitles can overlap the control bar while it's visible (Settings → Subtitles → "Raise subtitles by" helps).
- macOS on Apple Silicon only for now.
