Vault Codex 0.1.13
Vault Codex 0.1.13
This patch reduces GitHub release attachments to the three files consumed by Obsidian: main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css. It addresses the unsupported-extra-files review recommendation. Installation/source ZIPs and checksums remain available through local npm run package builds.
Plugin runtime source and styles are unchanged. Local Codex discovery and connection, file selection, Copy reply, language support, conversations, and preferences retain their existing behavior. Their capability-related review findings are not claimed as resolved.
Install or update
See the community listing. Website publication does not by itself verify that the entry is searchable in every client's directory.
For manual installation, download all three attached files from this release. Close Obsidian, create <vault>/<config-dir>/plugins/vault-codex/ (the default configuration directory is .obsidian), and place the files inside. For an update, replace only those three files and preserve data.json. GitHub's automatic Source code archives cannot be installed directly.
Requires Obsidian desktop 1.13.7+ and a separately installed Codex executable with a working account/provider configuration.
Vault Codex 0.1.12
Vault Codex 0.1.12
This patch addresses the actionable code and CSS warnings from the Obsidian Community review without removing local Codex features.
- Add explicit types for protocol events, account responses, approvals, saved data, and transcription claims. Invalid JSON message envelopes now fail pending requests cleanly.
- Use the owning window for view and microphone timers, and explicit Node timers for process-level scheduling.
- Respect a custom vault configuration directory in assistant instructions.
- Preserve hidden controls, keyboard focus, accessible labels, and reduced motion while removing
!important,:has, andclip-pathfrom plugin CSS. - Generate GitHub build provenance attestations for
main.js,manifest.json, andstyles.css. - Add regression coverage for protocol compatibility, approvals, question inputs, Markdown rendering, custom configuration folders, and cancellation.
Install or update
Open the Obsidian community listing, or check for updates in Obsidian's Community plugins settings. Requires Obsidian 1.13.7+, desktop only, and a separately installed Codex executable with a working account/provider configuration.
For manual installation, use vault-codex-0.1.12.zip. For an existing installation, close Obsidian and replace only main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css, preserving data.json.
Direct filesystem access and local process execution remain necessary to discover and run Codex. Vault file enumeration supports note selection; clipboard writing supports Copy reply. These capabilities remain documented in the README. ZIP archives and checksums are included for manual installation and verification; Obsidian downloads only the three plugin assets.
Vault Codex 0.1.11
Vault Codex 0.1.11
This patch resolves the blocking style-rule findings from the Obsidian Community review of 0.1.10. Fixed input height defaults and permission-menu alignment now live in CSS; the input still grows with its contents and popup positioning remains responsive.
Requirements
- Obsidian 1.13.7 or newer, desktop only.
- A separately installed Codex executable and a working account/provider configuration.
- Model services may require a ChatGPT subscription or paid API credits. The plugin itself is MIT-licensed and free.
Install or update
Download vault-codex-0.1.11.zip and place its vault-codex folder in your vault's plugin directory. For an existing installation, close Obsidian and replace only main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css, preserving data.json.
The release also includes the three plugin files individually, a source archive, and SHA-256 checksums. Read the README for setup, permissions, network use, and optional dictation details.
Vault Codex 0.1.10
Vault Codex 0.1.10
Vault Codex brings the local Codex app server into an Obsidian sidebar, with streaming conversations, note and image references, file operations, approval cards, model selection, conversation history, and optional microphone dictation.
This is the first release prepared for the Obsidian Community directory under the ID vault-codex. Publication in the directory is a separate step; these assets also support manual installation.
Requirements
- Obsidian 1.13.7 or newer, desktop only.
- A separately installed Codex executable that supports
app-server --listen stdio://. - A working Codex account/provider configuration. Service subscriptions, usage charges, and quotas are separate from this free MIT-licensed plugin.
- The interface can follow Obsidian's language or use a language selected in settings. Windows and Linux have not been verified on real machines.
Changes
- Support Obsidian 1.13.7 with native macOS settings and migration verification; build against the 1.13.1 public API definitions.
- Add ten interface languages with automatic Obsidian-language selection and English fallback.
- Add settings for send shortcuts, panel position, automatic scrolling, custom assistant preferences, and response detail.
- Preserve conversation drafts, attachments, and history across language changes and panel moves. Apply changed or cleared assistant preferences to existing conversations on their next send.
- Rename the plugin to Vault Codex and its ID to
vault-codex. - Add the MIT license and English/Chinese documentation, including data flow and permission disclosures.
- Align the connection client and user agent version with
manifest.json. - Add a compatible-version map, release validation, source and installation ZIPs, SHA-256 checksums, and automated draft releases.
Install
Extract vault-codex-0.1.10.zip into your vault's plugin directory. The resulting folder must be vault-codex and contain main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css. Enable Vault Codex in Settings → Community plugins.
For directory installation, attach main.js, manifest.json, and styles.css individually to the GitHub release tagged 0.1.10. A ZIP alone does not supply the files Obsidian downloads.
Migrate from development builds
The old ID was codex-for-obsidian. Disable it and close Obsidian, back up its plugin directory, install vault-codex, and copy only the old data.json into the new plugin directory before reopening Obsidian. Keep that backup private: it contains conversation text and settings. Enable only one of the two plugins, and reopen the sidebar if necessary. See RELEASING.md for the complete steps.
Data and permissions
Chat and attached content are sent through your local Codex process to its configured provider and tools. Conversations and settings are stored in the vault's plugin data.json; Codex also maintains its own local state outside the vault. Optional dictation uploads recorded audio to https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/transcribe using the local Codex ChatGPT authorization. This dictation integration depends on a non-public endpoint and may become unavailable. Full access permits command execution and file access outside the vault. Read the README before selecting that mode.
