0.8.2

@Hostu404 Hostu404 released this 16 Oct 09:42

Install

Remove prior versions and install from:

Browser Get it from
Firefox (desktop and Android) Firefox Add-ons
Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera Chrome Web Store

Both stores update the add-on by themselves. If a store still shows the previous version, 0.8.2 is waiting on that store's review and will arrive automatically.

Needs Firefox 140 or newer (142 on Android), or Chrome 120 or newer.

What's new in 0.8.2

New

  • Turn off sync. A new switch in the toolbar popup, off to start with. With it on, the video is yours to pause and skip around as you like, and clicking a title in the playlist or in search results plays it just for you, from the start. When it ends, the next one down plays, until the end of that list.
    • The room carries on without you, and a bar under the video says what you're watching and what the room's on.
    • Back in sync on the bar takes you straight back to the room's video, where the room is, and turns the switch off.
    • Ctrl+click or a middle click still opens a title's link in a new tab.
    • The playlist leader stays in sync, since the room follows their video.

Improved

  • Smoother busy channels. With the Polished look on, the chat, user list, private messages and long playlists take less work for the browser to draw. Nothing about how they look changes.

Source code for this version is attached below. To load it without a store, see Installing from the source code in the README.

0.8.1.4

Choose a tag to compare

@Hostu404 Hostu404 released this 13 Oct 08:53

CyTube Plus 0.8.1.4

Changes since 0.8.1.2.

Fixed

  • Big emotes no longer pop in at full size. A new emote used to show at full size while it downloaded, then shrink. It now stays within the size limit from the start.

Faster

  • Busy channels: name colours no longer search the whole user list for every message. In a test with 300 users and 100 messages, the add-on's own work dropped from about 0.8 seconds to about 0.1.
  • Lights down: the dark repositions at most once per frame while you scroll.
  • Channel CSS changes: handled once per frame, and name colours are only redone if the chat's background actually changed.

Install

  • Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera: use the Chrome Web Store. It updates itself.
  • Firefox: it isn't on Firefox Add-ons yet, so download the .xpi below. In about:addons, click the gear button, choose Install Add-on From File… and pick it. Needs Firefox 140 or newer.

0.8.1.2

@Hostu404 Hostu404 released this 12 Oct 11:30

CyTube Plus 0.8.1.2

Everything since 0.6.5.

Chat

  • Shrink big emotes (new, on by default): oversized emotes get smaller, down to 36px tall inside a message and 84px when a message is just emotes. Smaller emotes are left alone and nothing is made bigger. Works in PMs too.
  • Tidier long messages (part of the Polished look): a long message wraps in its own column beside the time and name, instead of under the timestamp. Only on chats wide enough for it.

Lights down

  • Lift set to 0 = Off
  • Dim the chat separately (new, off by default): the chat gets its own lighter dim, 40% by default and adjustable. The chat header dims with the page. Typing or clicking in the chat doesn't lift the dark; clicking elsewhere on the page still does.

Install

  • Chrome, Edge, Brave, Opera: use the Chrome Web Store. It updates itself. If you loaded a GitHub zip before, remove that copy from chrome://extensions.
  • Firefox: it isn't on Firefox Add-ons yet, so download the .xpi below. In about:addons, click the gear button, choose Install Add-on From File… and pick it. Installed this way it doesn't update itself. Needs Firefox 140 or newer.

0.7.7

@Hostu404 Hostu404 released this 11 Oct 11:44

What's changed since 0.6.5

Now on Chrome

  • CyTube Plus now works on Chrome, and on Edge, Brave and Opera too. It's the same add-on with the same features and settings. Download the Chrome zip below (installing steps at the bottom). It's also waiting for approval on the Chrome Web Store.

Niconico comments

  • Speed slider. Set how fast comments fly in the toolbar menu, from half to double speed.
  • Comments no longer disappear early. Every comment now travels all the way across the video before it goes. Emotes that were still loading used to stop at the left edge and vanish, and on channels with their own fonts some text comments were cut short too.
  • Greentext keeps its colour. Coloured text in chat, like greentext, now flies in the same colour, lightened if it would be too dark to read over the video.
  • Emotes load once. A flying emote reuses the image the chat already loaded instead of downloading it again. One that fails to load is left out rather than flying as a broken image.
  • Slow emotes don't hold up other comments. A comment waiting for its emote image follows on as soon as the image is loaded; the rest keep flying meanwhile.
  • Comments now always use the same clear system font, whatever font the channel uses.

Click names and emotes

  • Works on more channels. It now works where a channel's own script gets in the way of clicks, uses its own message box, or shows names and emotes its own way.
  • Channel features still come first. If a channel does something of its own when a name or emote is clicked (like v4c's profile cards and emote swaps), that's left alone. A channel that only cancels the click, with nothing else happening, no longer stops it working, so ordinary emotes on v4c can now be clicked.

Coloured names

  • Staff names match the user list. Staff who don't show their rank colour in chat used to get an ordinary name colour there, different from their colour in the user list. Their name in chat now gets the same colour the user list shows.

Lights down

  • Adjustable darkness and timing. Two new sliders in the toolbar menu set how dark the page goes (30–100%, 90% by default) and how long a click outside the video lifts it (1–10 seconds, 4 by default). Changes apply straight away, even with the lights already down.

Under the hood

  • Tidied the code for Mozilla's review, and fixed a few small things: Niconico comments clean up fully when turned off, a comment waiting for an emote re-checks the video's size before it flies, and SVG emotes fly properly.

Installing

Firefox

Download the .xpi below, then in Firefox open about:addons, click the ⚙ gear button and choose Install Add-on From File…. Needs Firefox 140 or newer.

Chrome, Edge, Brave or Opera

For now only: this is a temporary way to install it until CyTube Plus is listed on the Chrome Web Store. Once it's there, install it from the store instead (it updates itself), and remove this copy from the extensions page.

  1. Download cytube-plus-chrome-0.7.7.zip below and extract it.
  2. Open the browser's extensions page (chrome://extensions, or edge://extensions in Edge) and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Click Load unpacked and pick the extracted folder.

It stays installed, but doesn't update itself. Keep the extracted folder, as the browser loads the add-on from it. Needs Chrome 120 or newer.

pre-release

Choose a tag to compare

@Hostu404 Hostu404 released this 10 Oct 19:34

A pre-release of CyTube Plus, for trying it out before it's on Firefox Add-ons.

What's in it

  • Polished look: the video, its buttons, the playlist, the poll and the chat become rounded, tidier cards.
  • Coloured names: each name in chat gets its own colour.
  • Highlights: messages that mention you, and private messages, stand out.
  • Lights down: the bulb button under the video dims the rest of the page to 90%.
  • Niconico comments: the square button under the video makes new chat messages fly across it, in fullscreen too.
  • Click names and emotes: click a name to reply to someone, or an emote to add it to your message.
  • Blacklist: the add-on does nothing on blacklisted channels (the Kinoplex is on it to start with). Manage it from the toolbar button.

Installing

  1. Download cytube_plus-0.6.5.1.xpi below.
  2. In Firefox, open about:addons, click the ⚙ gear button and choose Install Add-on From File…, then pick the file. (Or drag the file onto a Firefox window.)
  3. Click Add when Firefox asks.
  4. Open any cytu.be channel: the two new buttons are under the video, and the settings are behind the add-on's toolbar button.

Needs Firefox 140 or newer. Firefox shows this version as 0.6.5.1.

This pre-release doesn't update itself. When the add-on is on Firefox Add-ons, install it from there to get updates automatically.
