Declarative environment beta
This beta packages the redesigned environment-reproduction workflow for fresh
end-to-end testing on macOS, Linux, and Windows.
Highlights
- A clean, portable
pload.tomldescribes user intent; pload keeps exact
resolution data in.pload_lock.tomland executable acquisition choices in
.pload_plan.toml. pload planperforms metadata-only analysis and never downloads wheel
bodies.pload applyexecutes the saved plan exactly and stops instead of
silently changing routes.- Plans can reuse verified pload/pip/uv cache wheels, compatible installed
environments, local repositories, SSH repositories, or exact index URLs. pload apply --localmaterializes the environment as project-local.venv.- Apply output now uses adaptive Rich progress rows with real measured bytes
for downloads, cache verification, local/SSH copies, and environment copies. - Interactive planning shows only dependencies requested in
pload.toml;
transitive dependencies are resolved and routed automatically. pload remote addexplicitly publishes selected package artifacts to a
configured local or SSH repository.
Important beta boundary
This release replaces the discarded unreleased export/restore transport
prototype. Existing 1.2.0a1 declarative files should be regenerated with
pload describe, pload plan, and pload apply before relying on them.
Install or upgrade
pload-install --yes --package-spec "pload==1.2.0b1"For a first installation, follow the bootstrap instructions in the README.
Validation
- 139 tests across Python 3.8, 3.10, 3.12, and the current Python release on
Ubuntu, macOS, and Windows - Bootstrap installer smoke tests on all three operating systems
- CodeQL and package metadata checks
