Human Performance Development (HPDev) builds data-driven performance systems for mature athletes and professionals — people over 30 who want the same standard from their physical performance that they demand in their working lives. Founded in 2005 by Mike Rennie.
The work integrates sports science, strength and conditioning, biomechanics and nutrition into a plan built for one person's physiology and goals, rather than a generic programme. Clients have included national champions and world-record holders across multiple sports.
Most of it comes down to interpretation, and every athlete is an n of 1. Physiology, biomechanics and genetic data are noisy and rarely point the same way, and there is no population average to fall back on — the interpretation has to be done for that person, against their history, their training age and experience, their lifestyle. Masters athletes get the least of this, receiving instead generic or fad programmes. Human Performance Development was built on the relationship with the client, paying attention to the details most people miss, and on knowing what to act on with the time and resources they actually have.
