MPC Video Renderer with DLSS 5 Neural Rendering — 1.0

First stable release of this fork of MPC Video Renderer 0.10.7, which adds an optional
NVIDIA DLSS 5 Neural Rendering pass to the Direct3D 11 video pipeline.

New since 1.0 beta

  • Temporal stabilizer: no more shimmer. DLSS 5 made moving video shimmer. A new stabilizer
runs after the network and steadies only the change DLSS makes to the picture, so the whole
effect is kept and the video itself is never delayed.
    • Motion: NVIDIA Optical Flow (default) uses the Optical Flow engine of the NVIDIA driver
(RTX 20 series and later), so moving areas are steadied too.
    • Motion: Shader detector needs no Optical Flow and steadies still areas only. It also
takes over automatically when Optical Flow cannot run.
    • Optional Send the motion vectors to DLSS.
    • Measured on real pictures: plain DLSS shows 1.44× to 1.59× the flicker of its input, the
stabilizer with Optical Flow 1.06× to 1.14×, with 100 % of the effect kept. Cost: about
2.8 ms of GPU time per 1080p frame on an RTX 3050 (0.8 ms with the shader detector).
  • "DLSS 5" property page with every DLSS setting, and a status line showing whether DLSS
runs and which motion source the stabilizer uses. The statistics (Ctrl+J) show it too.
  • Fixed: a green frame could appear when DLSS was toggled while paused.

Requirements

  • NVIDIA RTX GPU with a recent driver (developed and tested on an RTX 3050), Windows 10 1703 or
later, x64. DLSS is not available in the 32-bit filter.
  • nvngx_dlssnr.dll — not included: it is NVIDIA's property and cannot be redistributed.

Installation

  1. Close the player and extract the archive to a permanent folder. Keep the dlss folder next
to MpcVideoRenderer64.ax: it holds a small nvngx.dll the filter needs.
  2. Put nvngx_dlssnr.dll next to MpcVideoRenderer64.ax or in its dlss folder, or set its
path on the DLSS 5 page.
  3. Run Install_MPCVR_64.cmd as administrator, or juste replace existing MpcVideoRenderer64.ax in the MPC-HC or MPC-BE folder (and add dlss folder of course, with the nvngx_dlssnr.dll - works with the modded RenoDX version of nvngx_dlssnr.dll for RTX 40 and 30)
  4. Select MPC Video Renderer as the player's video renderer, open the renderer's properties, go
to the DLSS 5 page and tick Enable. The defaults (Stabilizer 100, Motion: NVIDIA
Optical Flow) are the tested settings. F12 toggles DLSS during playback.

Upgrading from the beta: close the player, replace the files and run Install_MPCVR_64.cmd
again.

See README-DLSS5.md for how it works, every setting and the measurements.
