Omadesign 0.6.8 — Craft parity
Omadesign 0.6.8 — Craft parity
0.6.8 is the first stable release since 0.6.3. It ships the 0.6.4–0.6.7 milestones and the 0.6.8 Craft parity stack (PRs #220–#451) in a single release.
0.6.8: Craft parity
- Native float compositor: conic gradients and shape gradients (#450, #451).
- Color: Gray and Lab tagged documents. Conversion happens at display, export, PSD import and in the picker. Documents saved with these tags use project file format version 40 (#449). Recolor adds reduction presets (#444).
- Menus with real commands: Motion Animation, Layout, Develop and Effect menus, plus layer effects from the Effect menu (#426–#429, #445).
- Motion, Photo and Layout: reverse and clear animation (#446), auto white balance (#447), and Remove Auto Layout (#448). The Develop panel's Auto light is a single undo step (#431).
- Channels and selections: the active pixel selection is saved with the document (#432). Saved channels and the selection flip and rotate exactly (#433). Layer masks run through the shared scalar filter engine (#434). Spot ink channels have a canvas overlay (#435), alpha and spot channels exchange with Photoshop files (#436), and channel Calculations are available (#437).
- Asset Export: bleed, JPEG quality, PNG-8/WebP/GIF variants and row reordering (#438). Layers can be dragged from the Layers panel into the export pane (#439).
- Symbols, styles and actions: replace symbol instances in place (#440), import symbol libraries (#441), linked document graphic styles (#442), and move/align action steps with action file exchange (#443).
- Layers: grouping, group-tree rows and whole-subtree Arrange. Duplicate, merge, flatten, clipping, stamp and cross-group merges, with paint-accurate bounds and selection restored on Undo/Redo (#406–#425).
- Type: Find Font, Find and Replace, editable variable font instances, and font embedding in PDF and SVG. Editable SVG text keeps metrics, kerning, scale, bidi, fallback and leading (#368–#404).
- Pixel: alpha channels, Quick Mask, channel Curves and filters, and Pixel adjustments and filters in the top menus (#356–#368).
0.6.4–0.6.7
- 0.6.4: qualified baseline. Affine focal radial SVG gradients and editable linear optical corrections in Photo.
- 0.6.5: shared inspector and panel primitives.
- 0.6.6: contextual mixed and locked fields. Vector PDF gradients, masks and transparency are preserved. Styled and threaded IDML exchange is connected to Open and Export.
- 0.6.7: saved task panels with reliable restore order. Native 16-bit/float pixels, CMYK and ICC color, and editable Photoshop type and placed sources. Live collaboration with presence and per-author undo. Motion expressions, compositions and 3D scenes. SVG filters and patterns. Editable PDF text with embedded fonts. Affinity and Illustrator adapters. Broad keyboard access across native fields. See the 0.6.7 nightly notes.
Known limitations
The limits in the 0.6.7 nightly notes still apply. Full float SVG filters, patterns and appearance isolation refuse explicitly. Tablet behavior, physical display accuracy, Adobe/InDesign compatibility and every RAW camera mode are not claimed as qualified.

Release notes · 13 CC0 brushes · Editable examples
Validation: 1,026 library tests, 25 site tests and 35 installer checks passed, plus native rendering and input regressions. Physical tablet acceptance and hotplug remain unverified. Tilt, tablet pad controls, physical tool rotation and automatic reverse-side eraser switching are not implemented.
Fred Nix's #202–#204 fixes are included through #207. The accepted 0.5.0 human-QA evidence is preserved.
0.6.3-nightly.20261011.0001 — Brush packs
Brush packs are ready for Pixel. Paint with 12 original CC0 tips, import your Photoshop ABR and Illustrator libraries, and save or export your own Omadesign packs.
Download Essentials and Texture. In Pixel, open Brush → Import, pick a pack, and choose a brush.
Photoshop sampled and computed tips import with names and spacing where available. Illustrator artwork becomes sampled tips. Photoshop dynamics and editable Illustrator brush behavior are not reproduced. Imported third-party packs remain local; this release distributes original Omadesign artwork.
This is a nightly prerelease for Linux ARM64 and x86_64. Extract the matching app archive and run omadesign. Each architecture also has a small installer archive; its omadesign-install entry selects this exact nightly. The nightly installer installs beside stable and creates omadesign-nightly with separate settings.
Nightlies now use BASE-nightly.YYYYMMDD.NNNN, with a four-digit daily counter. This release is 0.6.3-nightly.20261011.0001. Stable remains 0.6.3.
Both desktop architectures are built locally against glibc 2.35 and carry SHA-256 checksums. Validation: 1,000 desktop tests, 35 installer checks, and 23 site tests pass. Both architectures rendered native WGPU Pixel/About views and converted real Photoshop tips identically. Package and native receipts. The accepted 0.5.0 human-QA record remains preserved.
Omadesign 0.6.3 — A workspace that moves with you
Omadesign 0.6.3 makes Welcome a workspace for organizing and opening your documents.
- Scrub motion thumbnails by moving across them. Ctrl-click selects files, Shift-click selects a range, and Alt-click or Return opens documents in background tabs while Welcome stays focused.
- Right-click documents to reveal, move, clone, make templates, or move them to Trash. Drag to move into a project; hold Alt to copy. Project menus create Vector, Raster, and Layout documents and manage project folders.
- Reuse personal templates as editable, unsaved copies. File moves preserve archived fonts and update open tabs and photo paths.
- Typography has its own sidebar tab. The centered mode controls follow Vector, Raster, Layout, Welcome, Photo, Motion, and Agent in rainbow colors, with icon controls for Inspect, Typography, Palettes, and Brand at the right.
Install or update:

- Wayland canvas text supports CJK/IME composition, candidate positioning and reliable Unicode clipboard input across Design, Pixel and Layout.
- Raster motion keys, agent file workflows, saved conversation reopening, clipboard-sized canvases, cached document previews, expanded artboard controls and export previews complete the 0.6.2 work.
Download the archive for your Linux architecture below, or update with curl -fsSL https://omadesign.app/install | sh.
Both portable builds target GLIBC 2.35 and include their ML runtime and licenses. Final archives were tested on ARM64/Asahi and physical AMD/Intel x86_64 machines. Validation: 977 native tests passed (8 ignored), 21 site tests passed, real fcitx5/Rime input and authenticated desktop/mobile review workflows passed.
0.6.1 · More control. Less waiting.
Omadesign 0.6.1 brings offline background removal and AI upscaling, live agents on the canvas, a fuller typography workflow, and faster brushing and motion. Your work stays editable in native documents.
Cut out and upscale, offline
Remove Background creates an editable mask on a Pixel layer while preserving the original pixels. Preview the cutout or matte, refine its edges, then apply it as one undo step. The bundled model runs locally; optional models download only when requested.
AI upscaling works in Photo, Pixel background removal and raster export. Choose 2×, 4× or a custom scale. Photo saves and opens a developed copy. Pixel can upscale before removing a background or upscale the finished cutout, keeping its mask and canvas placement aligned. File → Export shows the format, scale and exact output dimensions. Models, runtime licenses and searchable offline Credits ship with the app.
Work with an agent on the canvas
The native Agent panel connects to local ACP harnesses and discovers available providers, models and effort levels. Agents can make undoable edits to the live document. Conversations, preferences and favorites persist locally.
Paste screenshots, SVG, copied objects, files or long logs into the composer as removable references. Short text stays inline. References survive conversation History; interrupted connections and failed sends preserve unsent drafts and attachments. Delivery adapts to the connected provider's capabilities, including file/path fallback. Provider availability and media support depend on the installed harness.
Set type, then keep editing it
- Paragraph alignment, justification limits, Unicode line breaking, hyphenation, no-break ranges and keep/widow controls work with the text's actual shaped positions.
- OpenType controls discover the selected font's features and apply them to character ranges, including named stylistic sets and alternate-glyph previews.
- Range controls include leading, tracking, baseline shift, horizontal/vertical scale, and metrics, optical or manual kerning.
- Editable text follows live vector paths. Brackets, flip, offset and curve spacing update with the guide; changing nodes or transforms reflows the text.
- Drag with the Text tool to create an area frame. Link frames into a story, flow around visible objects, or use a closed shape as a text frame. Resizing a frame reflows the letters instead of stretching them.
Advanced typography exports as outlines where needed to preserve placement. Font search also stays open while you click and type; choosing a font closes the picker.
Selection, appearance and placement
Pixel selections have direct transform handles and an editable Bézier lasso. Move, resize, distort, skew, change perspective or warp the selection; preview Grow, Shrink and Feather before applying. Adding a pixel layer now preserves the selection and keeps subsequent painting clipped to it.
Object content, shadows, glows and color overlays have independent blend modes and opacity. Fill opacity and interior grouping provide separate control over content and effects. Older documents retain their appearance through migration; export dialogs report format limitations.
Flip lives beside Rotate and has Shift+H / Shift+V shortcuts, including reflection of Motion artwork and its keys. Align objects, groups or selected layers to their artboard from the inspector; Shift-click aligns each selected unit to its own artboard. Fit now sits beside 100% and the zoom readout across all five studios.
Less repeated work
Brushing updates affected pixels, dragging reuses unchanged canvas work, and large Layers panels and tab lists avoid rebuilding offscreen rows. Motion reuses compatible effect work and avoids duplicate thumbnail renders during playback. Complex paths no longer recalculate their bounds for every control point. Hidden Wayland windows stop prolonged spinning when redraw callbacks are withheld. Opening many files from the command line queues the full set.
Across three tested machines, brush-drag UI processing improved 2.87–3.03× at the median and 3.81–4.56× at p95 against issue #158 baseline 221834bd. Typing, pan and zoom medians were roughly unchanged. These are two-run, as-used CPU-side UI measurements, not displayed FPS or a comparison with shipped 0.6.0. Both fleet sides used LTO-disabled benchmark builds; candidate source 8ee01b4e was tested before the final 0.6.1 package/version build. Full fleet results and limits.
A separate M1 Pro comparison with 24 documents open reduced median motion UI work from 515 to 59 ms for the announcement composition and 185 to 36 ms for Live Stream. Live Stream's first playing update fell from about 1.88 seconds to 22 ms. Its baseline was the earlier interaction-optimized build, and these results do not establish locked 30/60 fps. Motion evidence and method.
The caches use additional bounded memory. Some measured workflows became slower: HP native upscaling took 16.6% longer and Intel's 1024-pixel 2× CLI upscale took 34.1% longer; some pen, pan and zoom tails also increased. AI inference code is unchanged. The report retains every regression and the nine isolated changed pixels in the authoring export rather than claiming universal speedups or pixel identity.
Real-ESRGAN ONNX model assets v1
Reproducible Real-ESRGAN ONNX model assets for Omadesign issue #145.
This is a model-only distribution, not an Omadesign application release. It is excluded from latest and has no application/update archives.
All four models derive from xinntao/Real-ESRGAN official weights (BSD-3-Clause, Copyright (c) 2021 Xintao Wang). BasicSR conversion architecture utilities are Apache-2.0. Full license texts are attached. No Upscayl code or weights are included.
The attached manifest pins original sources, weights, conversion settings, ONNX sizes and SHA-256. Conversion script: https://github.com/michaelmonetized/omadesign/blob/1a232d10/scripts/convert-upscale-models.py
CPU-compatible fp32, ONNX opset 17, NCHW, dynamic spatial dimensions, batch 1. Native x2 requires even input dimensions; Omadesign pads and crops its tiles. The General x4v3 model is embedded in the app; other downloads are optional and verified before installation and every load.
0.6.0 · Key the design you already made
Motion keys the design you already made. Width and height key on their own. Blend stays a design edit.
The Linux archives on this release were replaced on 2026-09-25. The version is still 0.6.0.
- The eyedropper writes the sample onto the active fill or stroke, including the first stop of a gradient, and into the color dialog that asked for it. Recent colors stay in the picker.
- Apple glass is the twelveux lens: refraction, color fringe, highlight, rim light, blur, split, and falloff.
- Simplify runs on one path, from the inspector and from Object → Pathfinder.
- The Omarchy theme reloads when the theme file changes.
- Paste takes a PNG, JPEG, or SVG copied from the file manager.
- A Picsum photo lands as a picture you can select.
- An animated SVG keeps a rotating gradient and names the effects it cannot represent. WebM export plays the motion.
- A ruler guide snaps while you drag it.
- Brush, eraser, clone, heal, and smudge draw the brush edge on the canvas.
- The clone brush has size, edge, opacity, flow, and Aligned.
- Shape and icon rows show thumbnails. Free photos load theirs while the browser is open.
- The shape library and the photo picker sit at the bottom of the tool stack.
- The zoom percent and a 100% button sit at the bottom right.
- Motion keys position, separate width and height, rotation, opacity, gradient angle, fill color, stroke width, dash, gap, and dash length.
Packages are linked with Zig against glibc 2.35 and need only libm and libc.

0.5.9 · Click the pixel you mean
QA passed on 24 September 2026.
- The eyedropper grabs the next pixel anywhere on the screen. Escape returns to the canvas. Press I to grab the screen again.
- Alt subtracts from a pixel selection. Shift still adds.
- Dilate and erode stay on a hard pixel cutout.
- Welcome links bring the browser forward.
- Cloud sign-in stays open and says you're in.
- Midnight Duotone bakes a vector page into a Filtered image layer. Undo removes it.
- Clicking the open end of a live pen path drops the forward handle.
