春日歩の通販生活 (Ayumu Kasuga's Mail Order Life, a.k.a. Osaka Simulator) now runs properly on modern Windows, and on Linux through Wine. No virtual machine or compatibility mode is needed.
What's fixed
- Runs at the right speed. The game no longer plays several times too fast. This was caused by a timer that broke once your PC had been on for more than a few hours, so it affected nearly every modern PC.
- Osaka looks right again. No more solid blue or missing hair, or invisible models.
- Readable window title. The title shows 春日歩の通販生活 instead of garbled text.
- Smooth speech-bubble window. The desktop speech-bubble mode now runs at 60 fps instead of about 35 on Windows.
Existing saves and settings keep working as they are.

Installing on Windows
- Get the original game from the Internet Archive or My Abandonware. The patch has been tested on the Internet Archive version.
- Open the folder where the game is installed. It contains
tsu_han.exeand the foldersanimation,modelandsound. - Rename the original
tsu_han.exetotsu_han_original.exe, so you can go back if you need to. - Copy the downloaded
tsu_han.exeinto the folder. Optionally also copy the downloadedtsu_han.datsave file. - If you ever turned on compatibility mode for the game, turn it off. Windows remembers the setting for that file location, so the new exe inherits it. Right-click
tsu_han.exe→ Properties → Compatibility → untick Run this program in compatibility mode. - Run
tsu_han.exe.
Linux
Install Wine with 32-bit support (Ubuntu/Debian: sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386 && sudo apt install wine wine32). Replace the exe as above, then run it from the game folder:
wine tsu_han.exeTested with Wine 9.0 on Ubuntu 24.04, in both the normal window and the speech-bubble window.
macOS
This hasn't been tested yet. A Wine build that runs 32-bit Windows programs (such as CrossOver) should work the same way as on Linux. Reports are welcome.

If you'd rather patch the exe yourself, use patch_exe.py from this repository. It only accepts the original exe with the checksum above. The README explains how each fix works.
