A new look for the desktop app (#19)

  • Ring gauges for CPU and GPU: a 270° arc over 30–100 °C that runs cyan → violet → amber → red, with the number easing to each reading and the session peak as a tick on the ring. The sparklines behind the tiles (and the VRAM panel) are gradient-filled areas.
  • Spinning fan icons that turn with the real RPM and stop at 0.
  • Neon glow on the active power mode, the gauges, the logo and the active lighting effect; soft panel shadows; the GAMING and GUARD badges pulse.
  • Keyboard lighting preview: a 4-zone keyboard in the Lighting panel plays the selected effect (Quantum, Static, Breathe, Spectrum, Rainbow, Wave, Bounce, Off) in the chosen colour and brightness, with timings that mirror the controller's.
  • All power modes on one row, with short labels and the full name on hover; up to 7 modes fit at the 440 px minimum width.
  • Fonts: Outfit for text and JetBrains Mono for figures (both SIL OFL, bundled), with fixed-width digits so live numbers stop jittering.
  • Animations run only while the window is focused. Open in the background the GUI now uses less CPU than 0.4.0 (0.7% vs 1.5% of a core on the m18 R2); hidden in the tray, nothing.
  • Fixed: opening Edit in Fan control no longer pushes the panel past the window edge, and the live-temperature label on the curve chart no longer covers the guard label.

cryoctl

  • cryoctl status and watch show the VRAM session peak and the share of the card in use (#13).
  • cryoctl status shows the running daemon's version and flags a daemon that hasn't been restarted onto the installed code; new cryoctl --version (#16).
  • cryoctl exits 1 when the daemon answers ok: false, so scripts and cryod-resume.service see failures (#16).
  • status no longer prints "turbo off" on machines without turbo control (#16).

Fixed (#16)

  • cryoctl reapply no longer aborts on limited-mode machines (no platform profiles) before re-initialising NVML and re-asserting the CPU cap, so those now run after resume there.
  • cryoctl cap off lifts the cap to 100% instead of leaving the last max_perf_pct in force until reboot.
  • An AC/battery switch whose profile write fails no longer re-raises on every tick, which skipped the Thermal Guard for as long as it failed.

Installer and docs

  • install.sh finds uv in ~/.cargo/bin too, stops with a clear message when it's missing, and warns when ~/.local/bin isn't on your PATH (#15, #16).
  • The README opens with a "Will it work on my machine?" section, the update command and an uninstall section (#15).
  • Dependency floor raised: nvidia-ml-py 13.615.71 (#12). CI on setup-uv 10.3 (#17).

Upgrading

cd cryo && git pull && sudo ./packaging/install.sh

The installer restarts cryod; restart cryo-gui (quit it from the tray) to load the new window. Existing config files keep working.
