IHE International PCIM Committee Meeting

August 06, 2026 11:00 AM Central Time

Attendees

Eldon Metz, Tom Kowalczyk, Al Engelbert, Jacob Braschler, Jeff Gaetano, Brendan Burke

Agenda

  • Discussion on revised workflow idea with Order ID combined with PCIM for manual and auto-programming of pumps.

Notes

  • Tom K presented a architecture with PCD-03 Lite triggering PCD-01, PCD-10, PCD-04 going to a SOMDS gateway which then becomes a DPAR and can send a DEV-51 intelligently.
  • Jacob mentioned one concern is that a different reporter(SOMDS gateway) than the original reporter (PCD-03) would be doing this and how that is controlled.
  • Jeff questioned why PCD-03 lite is called out differently than PCD-03 full. Tom discussed the need for the DPAM to get that information, not only association, but also order ID.
  • Al brought up the sequencing of PCD-03 getting second ack before it can send authoritative DEV-51. Jacob discussed two different scenarios of the workflow and sequencing (both sent at the same time, dev-51 gets sent later).
  • Tom asked about the possibility of updating the DPAM to accept PCD-03 Lite or Full and then implementing the SOMDS gateway as shown in his diagram and Eldon mention it is definitely doable by Plugathon.
  • Al asked about why the Order ID (and channel) was important, which consumers are interested in this from the manager vs 01 and 10's. An order and channel are part of a pump event, not an association event. Is there danger of PCIM being a source of truth and should DPAM have this at all.
  • Concern is that PCIM wasn't intended or needed to be a clinical context source of truth that is broader than patient device association with optional location.
