1. New Brainstorming Process

Contributor: All but Luciana Bacci synthetize all the information

Starting Point

We reviewed the feedback given to the group in the MS2. In the previous deliverable we chose 4 problems: campus navigation, parking, food discovery and student organizations, and as a group we decided to focus on the visibility of student organizations and informal communities.

In this brainstorming process we decided to identify solutions based on the evidence we recollected. image

After the empathize, where we reviewed the interviews and journey maps, we continued with the pattern recognition. Meaning that we needed to see if there was anything in common through all the problem areas. We identified 3 patterns.

Afterwards, we passed from the research to ideation using the How Might We questions. image

Then we decided to list different solutions, and we divided it by their mechanism

Discovery

  • List of every group, formal or informal
  • Search by keyword or tags
  • Recommendation: Groups for you
  • Group profile detailing its activity, frequency and level
  • Trial visit before joining formally
  • Location where each group meets

Creation

  • Publish an interest without having to register in a group
  • Suscriber list to show how many people like the same interest
  • Template available to propose an activity

Organization management

  • Event publishing
  • Reach and engagement metrics per group
  • Attendance registration
  • Membership and roles

Cross-cutting

  • Notifications for events
  • Events with no membership required

There are several features to help create the app that many students need but it is also better to have smart features and context features so that the user experience is better and to help become a real and working app.

Interest-based recommendations

  • The app shows the complete directory and includes a space to recommend groups that the user may like. We have to use information like interest, program, semester. This helps that all interest have a chance, and that the rank is not based only on member count.

Event surfacing

  • Uses the campus event feed and the phone's sensors to offer a better offer of the live events and where they are happening. It helps since it uses the user location to recommend an event, it would not work if it recommends all at the same time and even some that are not nearby.

Consent-based broadcast

  • We create a suscriber list based on the interests and also a broadcast ready that targets other users rather than the current followers. This way people can avoid sending formal emails or even spamming people on whatsapp groups.
