SHIORI 1.0

Free, open-source sticky notes for macOS, kept close to the work you're doing.

Install

  1. Download the attached universal macOS ZIP.
  2. Extract it and move SHIORI.app to Applications. Quit an older SHIORI before replacing it.
  3. Open SHIORI; its controls appear in the menu bar and at the display edge.

The deployment target is macOS 14 or later. The download includes Apple silicon and Intel executables; Xcode is only needed to build from source.

This build is ad-hoc signed and not notarized by Apple. If macOS blocks it, proceed only if you trust its source. After trying to open it, System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway may be available; see Apple’s guidance.

Prefer building it yourself? Follow the source-build instructions, which require Xcode with Swift 6.2 or later.

In this release

  • Compact hover previews with smooth opening and responsive pointer tracking.
  • Multiple floating notes, persistent pinning, app-aware window tracking and detached edge groups.
  • Focus mode and Quick Search across note titles and current drafts.
  • Native Markdown with links, lists and interactive checkboxes. Paste a web address over selected text to create a link.
  • Twenty note colors and four font choices.
  • Configurable global shortcuts, Launch at Login and an optional Touch ID interface lock.
  • Local SQLite storage, automatic snapshots and undo after deleting a note.

Things to know

Responsive app-window tracking uses Accessibility access; global shortcuts work without it. App attachment remembers the application, rather than a persistent document/window identity.

Touch ID hides note contents in the interface; it does not encrypt the database or backups. Deleted notes remain in the database. There is no sync, export or permanent-delete interface.

Intel/minimum-macOS compatibility and physical Touch ID, Spaces, login and monitor transitions need wider testing.
