Tally 1.4.0
Added
- A loan payment can carry a fee, such as a sending or cash-out charge: "Add a fee" on the payment card. Like a
transfer's fee, it comes off the account, shows with the payment in History and is never counted as spending. - Paid more than you owed? The extra can now also be booked as income (they paid you more: the income form opens, so
you pick its category) or as that payment's fee (you paid them more), besides a new loan the other way. - Restore can be undone. Before auto backup first writes into a folder that already holds a Tally backup (or one that
can't be read), it asks whether to restore it or replace it, instead of writing over it. - CSV export: a transfer's received currency and a loan's person, as new last columns; a loan payment's fee is
"loan-fee".
Changed
- Buttons, chips and list rows are at least 48px to tap, and calendar days 48px tall where the screen has room; account
chips, segmented buttons and calendar days are a little taller. - On a phone held sideways, the date and period pickers show the calendar beside the rest, so a whole month fits with
days as tall as the screen allows. - On a short screen (a 16:9 phone, split screen), the calendar's days give up a little height so a whole month and the
buttons still fit; a picker still too tall for the screen scrolls with a swipe on its calendar.
Fixed
- Saved data:
- An entry saved just before Tally was swiped away from recent apps is no longer lost. Android's web view writes its
storage a few seconds late, so Tally now also keeps its own copy of every save, written at once, and opens with
whichever is newer. - If one of those copies can't be read, the other one opens; the unreadable one is kept aside (once) to save as a
file, and goes once it is saved. - A save that fails (phone storage full) now says so, with a button to save a backup file.
- Amounts Tally works out itself past a trillion (a balance fix in some currencies) are no longer dropped on the next
start, and amounts up to 9 trillion can be typed. - Delete all data stops when its backup wasn't saved.
- Restore says how many accounts and entries it will really bring back (counting what it leaves out), and warns
about a backup from a newer Tally. A backup file that can't be read no longer blocks Restore: the file picker
opens. Restore, then Undo, leaves auto backup as it was. - Data that couldn't be read at start-up stays offered in Settings until it is saved as a file or deleted, and no
longer switches auto backup off. - Odd backups load the same every time (repeated ids, impossible years, nameless types); deleting an asset can be
undone. - CSV opens in Excel with names in any script, amounts are rounded, and the formula guard also works after spaces.
- An entry saved just before Tally was swiped away from recent apps is no longer lost. Android's web view writes its
- Amounts:
- Text a keyboard inserts in one go (a clipboard suggestion, voice) reads like a paste. Pasted "1,234.567" and
"0,250" keep their decimals, a currency sign around a pasted amount is dropped, and Arabic and full-width commas
and Myanmar, Khmer and full-width digits work. - Money rounds as shown (1.005 → 1.01, negatives away from zero), and a balance fix that differs only below the
currency's decimals already matches. - Chart labels use the phone's short form (1.5K); every sign sits where the phone's language puts it (after the €
in Dutch, beside the number in Arabic) and stays on its amount's line; the ring's currency switch stays when the
donut shows no stats; empty amount fields show a plain "0".
- Text a keyboard inserts in one go (a clipboard suggestion, voice) reads like a paste. Pasted "1,234.567" and
- Loans:
- Enter in Edit payment no longer records a new payment on the loan underneath.
- A loan whose leftover is below the currency's smallest coin is cleared, and paying the amount shown clears it
(no "$0.00 more", no "Partly paid · $0.00 left"). - Editing a payment's account or day moves its fee with it. The Lend / Borrow form's currency follows the account
picked. With no account left in a loan's currency, the loan says so and offers only writing it off. - No payment can end up before the loan began; the merge hint says what will be owed; a name typed out in full adds
to that person's open tab; notes on added amounts show; a written-off lending shows what was let go; clearing by
drag names the account it uses. - A new due date moves every amount due by then. +1 day or +1 week on a reminder counts from the day it was tapped,
and an Undo can't take it back.
- Dates:
- Dates use the Gregorian calendar on phones set to another one (Persian, Hijri, Buddhist…), keeping the phone's
other choices such as Latin digits. - At midnight with the app open, Home, History, an open form and an open date picker move to the new day.
- Due reminders show dates in the phone's own order; an entry dated ahead (after crossing time zones) counts on the
day it was written for the evening reminder; a one-day range of yesterday says Yesterday, and so does the last
backup's time.
- Dates use the Gregorian calendar on phones set to another one (Persian, Hijri, Buddhist…), keeping the phone's
- Screens:
- Undo no longer sits over a sheet opened after a change, where a tap meant for the sheet could undo it; Undo closes
open sheets first; an entry deleted meanwhile no longer opens as an empty form; Enter in the icon search only
searches. - With every account archived, Home says so and offers to show them.
- Long names stay readable in the balance check, Settings and account chips at narrow widths and large text, and
names in right-to-left scripts keep their direction. - Large balances show whole at large text sizes: one too long for its line moves under its label, account chips
widen to fit it, and a total or amount that still doesn't fit is set a little smaller. - A long name wraps in a sheet's title and in dialogs instead of pushing the close button off, and ends in "…" in
chips with their ✓ kept; "First day of week" uses short day names where the long ones don't fit. - A two-finger pinch on the summary chart no longer moves it to another week or month.
- A fee saved with its transfer's own time lists just above it.
- Undo no longer sits over a sheet opened after a change, where a tap meant for the sheet could undo it; Undo closes
- Android:
- With auto backup on but its folder out of reach (a new phone, a reinstall), Settings says so and asks for the
folder again. Folder problems are said instead of looking like a cancel, "Couldn't back up" goes once a backup
succeeds, and Back up now says when there is nothing ready to save. - Back up now and Restore from the backup folder no longer freeze the screen while a slow folder (a cloud drive)
answers, saves go on during a backup, and two backups in a row never mix up their answers; Restore refuses a file
that isn't a backup before handing it to the screen, so a large wrong file can't freeze the app. - Two exports started at once each save their own file; an export left waiting is deleted after a day.
- The widget fits its text at large text sizes instead of cutting it off, and still resets at midnight on a day the
clocks change at midnight. - If Tally's screen keeps stopping, it shows a message with Try again instead of restarting over and over (and a
screen Android closed while Tally was out of sight simply reopens). - Answers from Android (backup, restore, saved files) reach the screen even after it was rebuilt; a malformed link
from another app can't crash Tally. - The first-open permissions dialog survives a first launch from the widget; no reminder is set before the app has
first opened; permission answers stay out of Android's own backup.
- With auto backup on but its folder out of reach (a new phone, a reinstall), Settings says so and asks for the
Accessibility
- Screen readers hear values: the donut's totals, ring percentages, the chosen date and currency and a dialog's text;
chart bars say which one is selected. - The focus stays on its control when the screen, a calendar or a chart redraws, and goes to its replacement after a
sheet closes. - Ring percentages redraw after a light or dark switch.
- The donut's currency switch is 48px tall to tap, and the keyboard's focus ring shows whole in lists and segmented
buttons.
