Welcome to my technical journal — a collection of practical notes, articles, experiments and guides covering IT, artificial intelligence, automation and application development.

About me

I have spent more than 27 years working in IT, across infrastructure, support and systems — the technology behind the scenes that businesses depend on every day.

Alongside that experience, I have developed a strong interest in artificial intelligence, automation and modern application development. I use practical projects to explore new technology: building applications, creating automations and testing tools to understand what works outside a product demonstration.

This journal is where I document and share what I learn.

My approach is straightforward:

Understand the technology, build something practical and explain what I found in plain English.

What you will find here

Informal notes from things I am currently exploring.

These entries may include:

  • Early findings and observations
  • Problems I have encountered
  • Tools I am testing
  • Approaches that worked
  • Approaches that did not work
  • Questions I still need to investigate
  • Follow-up tasks and project ideas

Longer pieces examining technology, products and industry developments.

Rather than simply repeating the news, I concentrate on what a development means in practice — particularly for people who build, manage or support real systems.

Topics include:

  • Artificial intelligence
  • AI agents and coding tools
  • Cybersecurity
  • Infrastructure and operations
  • Automation
  • Application development
  • Technology platforms
  • Practical product comparisons

Guides

Step-by-step instructions based on things I have tested myself. Guides are written to be useful without assuming that the reader already understands every tool or technical term involved.

Projects and Experiments

Notes and lessons from applications, automations and technical experiments I have built.

Where appropriate, these pages include:

  • The problem I wanted to solve
  • The tools and services I selected
  • How the solution works
  • Technical decisions
  • Problems and limitations
  • What I would change next time
  • Links to relevant repositories

Research and Resources

Useful documentation, articles, tools and references collected while researching a subject.

This area contains less polished material that may later develop into a journal entry, guide or full article.

Current areas of interest

I am particularly interested in:

  • Building useful AI applications
  • AI-assisted software development
  • Coding agents and human oversight
  • Connecting AI to tools and business systems
  • Model Context Protocol and agent interoperability
  • Safe automation and permission design
  • Cybersecurity for increasingly capable AI systems
  • Low-code and no-code development
  • Design tools for technical content
  • Making complicated technology easier to understand

How I write

I try to keep the content technical, human and hands-on.

You will not find exaggerated claims that every new model or product changes everything. I am more interested in practical questions:

  • What does it actually do?
  • What problem does it solve?
  • How difficult is it to use?
  • What permissions does it require?
  • What happens when it fails?
  • Who remains responsible for the result?
  • Is it genuinely useful once the demonstration is over?

Some articles are based on finished projects. Others document work in progress. Where information may change, I include references and a date showing when it was checked.
