@IbrahimS-1101 IbrahimS-1101 released this 11 Oct 13:55

First public beta of Capture & Release, created by Ibrahim Samir.

A lightweight Windows recorder for games and other applications, saving MP4 with playback audio from the selected application and its related processes. No microphone capture, streaming, editor or automatic uploads.

Get started

  1. Download and extract Capture-and-Release-0.3.0-beta.1-windows-x64.zip.
  2. Install the .NET 9 Desktop Runtime x64 if needed. Requires Windows 11 x64; ordinary Windows 10 desktop builds do not meet the application-audio requirement.
  3. Run Setup Recording Tools.cmd once. It downloads the pinned FFmpeg 8.0.1 full-build ZIP (about 234 MB) directly from Gyan Doshi's upstream release and checks its SHA-256. Our release ZIP does not contain FFmpeg binaries. Recording works offline after setup.
  4. Open app/CaptureAndRelease.exe, select your application and picture source, and check a short recording. Default start/stop shortcut: Ctrl + Shift + F9.

Included

  • Entire-monitor Screen capture and supported Window capture.
  • Selected application/process-tree audio, with no microphone or system-audio fallback.
  • CPU and NVIDIA encoders, preview, countdown, pointer option and recovery.
  • About box with author, GPL license and component credits.
  • Complete application/helper source and build instructions.

Known limits

Chrome Window capture can produce black video; use Screen mode with the browser fullscreen. Browser audio can include other tabs. Alt-Tab/fullscreen display changes can interrupt capture; the captured portion is saved where possible, without automatic resume. Window support varies by application. The executable is unsigned.

The owner tested DOSBox + CPU and Cyberpunk + NVIDIA on the preceding build. Controlled capture, media, UI and interruption/recovery checks cover this release; clean second-PC installation, broad hardware compatibility, HDR and anti-cheat games remain unverified. See TESTING.md.

Licensed GPL-3.0-only for application code. Dependencies retain their own licenses; see the included third-party notices. Source is included in the Windows archive and also available as a separate ZIP. SHA-256 checksums are attached.
