devin-redact

Secret and PII redaction that understands Devin tool-call semantics — in-place in sessions.db, not just flat text scrubbing.

Why it exists

Before sharing a session export or bug report, you need secrets gone. Naive find-and-replace breaks session semantics; redact knows the tool-call structure and strips tokens, keys and PII where they actually live.

Install

pipx install devin-redact
devin-redact session-export.md

Requires Python 3.10+ unless noted. Linux, Personal Windows and Corporate Windows are supported; see the repo's platform READMEs for differences.

Core commands

Command What it does
devin-redact <file> redact secrets/PII from a file
devin-redact --db redact in-place inside sessions.db records

What it touches

Reads: text files, sessions.db records. Writes: redacted output or in-place updates — the only mutating tool in the ecosystem; back up first (devin-backup).

Limitations

  • Redaction is destructive by nature; verify output before sharing.
  • Pattern set covers common secret shapes; exotic custom secrets may pass through.
