Aurora Lights v0.9.5-beta

@github-actions github-actions released this 09 Oct 13:10

What’s new

Improved

  • Session controls now have clearer screen-reader names and tracked states, larger touch targets, and visible keyboard focus. Android supports pinch zoom, and large-text layouts keep character-library actions and Session menus within reach. Landscape layouts leave room for the system navigation bar, and Android Back dismisses open menus and dialogs before leaving the app.
  • Fresh desktop installations can connect Google Drive directly without importing an OAuth configuration file. Official Windows and macOS releases include Aurora's app configuration, while existing imported configurations are preserved. Android continues to use native Google account selection. Google audience and consent requirements still apply.

Fixed

  • Opening a character no longer sends you back to Overview if you navigate elsewhere, switch tabs, or close the character while it is loading. The same protection applies when opening or reloading a character from Google Drive. Characters left open still finish loading in the background.
  • Keep shop results and long item descriptions scrolling independently so Buy/Add controls stay within the item pane on desktop. Keep the shop usable in short windows and phone landscape, prevent long inventory names from overlapping action buttons on mobile, and clear obsolete item selections and details when a picker search changes. Keep the selected app theme consistent when Android reports system-theme changes, preventing light controls and dark backgrounds from being mixed.

BIG CHANGE! Don't migrate if you're unsure or not techy (skip a version).

What’s new

Added

  • The Content Doctor can now write the repair for you: each content file with rarity typos has a Create override button that shows exactly what will be written, then (only when you confirm) saves a repaired copy under user/local that the importer reads at the next content refresh, leaving the original content file untouched.
  • A new Content Doctor page, shown when developer mode is enabled, reviews local override files and lets you clear corrections once upstream adopts them, lists element IDs that more than one file defines, and shows content the last refresh left out.
  • The Content Doctor page now lists rarities in the content that mean nothing, with the spelling to use and the file to change for each typo that is one letter away from a real rarity, and a short list of values nothing recognises (which show as Unknown in the filters).
  • Characters now includes a Cloud Saves section for Google Drive on desktop and Android. Open the same cloud character on either device and explicitly save changes, including session state, to Drive. Newer cloud saves replace the local working copy while displaced edits are kept for recovery. Desktop uses an imported OAuth client configuration; Android uses native Google account selection and requires its package/signing certificate to be registered in the same Google Cloud project.
  • Upload app-saved characters directly from Overview with Upload to Drive, including current edits, HP, spell slots and other session state. This works without locating the app's private files in the mobile file picker; external-file upload remains available in Cloud Saves.
  • When two identical weapons are carried, such as two daggers, the equipment page, the attacks list, the gear picker and the Shop's sell list now mark the one in the main hand "(M)" and the one in the off hand "(O)" so you can tell which is which.
  • Characters can now keep several companions at once, each with its own name, portrait and calculated statistics, and the Extras tab can add any creature template from your installed content as a companion regardless of class.
  • A new Shop page lets you browse every item available to the open character by department and category, search and filter by rarity, source and price, and then buy it with your coins, add it for free, or sell items from your pack, with magic weapons and armor built onto a base item you choose, prices you can set yourself where the content lists none, and a Settings option (on by default) that keeps the shop from ever handing out electrum as change.

Improved

  • Starting the app is faster and uses noticeably less memory: the per-class "Additional Spell" entries offered by Add Custom Feature are now built the first time you open one of those categories instead of on every launch.

Fixed

  • Android content loading and database refresh are more responsive, and a runtime crash that could close the app during refresh is mitigated.
  • Content Doctor now labels matches against installed source files without claiming that the publisher adopted a correction. Accepting corrections is unavailable until publisher updates can be verified, so a locally edited source cannot authorize retirement of the correction protecting the fix.
  • Content imports now use Aurora.Content 0.10.1, restoring Legacy supplement/homebrew append order and description handling. Existing databases require a refresh; an unsafe refresh preserves the previous database and identifies content that needs repair.
  • Google Drive test builds now include the current content engine, allowing existing v18 content databases to load on Android without triggering the older reader's XML fallback.
  • Opening a Google Drive character now shows a full-screen loading spinner until the character is ready. The Characters search box no longer takes focus automatically, and opening a tab keeps the library mounted so it does not interrupt the active Drive operation. Character restoration and final calculations run in the background, including reloads of already-open Drive characters.
  • Google Drive reloads and conflict recovery now report partial or failed character loads instead of claiming success. Failed initialization blocks saving the previous character over the downloaded file until a successful reload.
  • Adding more than one of an item that can be wielded, such as two daggers, now gives a separate inventory entry for each so they can be held one in each hand, while stackable items such as torches, potions and arrows join a single stack, whether they come from the Add Item picker, Starting Equipment, an extracted pack or the Shop.
  • The rarity filters in the Shop and Compendium now offer only the real rarities plus Varies (rarity that depends on something or spans several, such as "Rarity Varies" or "Rare, Very Rare, or Legendary"), Infusion (artificer infusions) and Unknown (anything else), and a rarity that is one typo away from a real one, such as "Vert Rare", "Lgendary" or "unommon", is read as the rarity it was meant to be.

Release process

  • This build includes Aurora.Content 0.11.0 and content data version 19; after installing it, close character tabs and use Settings > Content > Data > Refresh Database to rebuild an older database from installed XML with the updated correction review rules.

What’s new

Improved

  • Content loading reuses source metadata during each load, and equipment and compendium searches avoid repeated lookup-table construction and unnecessary entry conversion.

Fixed

  • Optional build choices no longer block completion guidance, spell double-click selection waits for completion, and JSON/web imports handle optional fields, starting classes, configured upload limits and session clearing correctly.
  • Creating or importing characters with the same name now chooses a free filename without overwriting an existing character.
  • Switching character tabs and recovering from save conflicts now restores equipped armor correctly, while equipment actions keep targeting the character they were opened for.
  • Content diagnostics and failed refreshes no longer replace the active catalog's saved-element aliases.
  • Content updates now detect restored files reliably, preserve usable files when downloads are invalid, and protect local corrections from automatic obsolete-file deletion.
  • Unchanged source indexes no longer repeatedly count as new content and prompt another database refresh; downloads still use HTTPS, and genuine content changes still trigger the refresh notification.

Release process

  • Release drafts target the commit used for their builds, and release notes read fragments from the selected release revision.

What's Changed

  • Fix maintained solution audit findings and reduce repeated loading work by @Xellarant in #11

@github-actions github-actions released this 01 Oct 06:19

What’s new

Added

  • Characters can now have multiple active companions, each with independent statistics, names, portraits, and saved choices. Companions can also be added through the Extras picker, including multiple creatures of the same kind.
  • Added Content Doctor to review local content corrections, conflicting definitions, and content skipped during import. It shows which definition is in use and lets you accept corrections already adopted by the content publisher. Enable developer mode under Settings > Advanced to show it in the navigation.

Improved

  • Magic filters and the selected view are remembered separately for each open character when navigating or switching tabs. They reset when the character or app is closed.
  • Improved restoration of older characters when content changes selection names, grant paths, or element IDs. Saved choices are recovered when a clear, valid replacement exists, while respecting source restrictions and requirements.

Fixed

  • Repeated ability-score increases now retain their independent bonuses instead of replacing or losing earlier selections.
  • Conditional grants, including firearm proficiencies, now remain consistent through character processing and reopening.
  • Choices and inventory records that cannot currently be restored are preserved when saving, rather than silently removed. Unresolved multiclass information is also retained.
  • Separate inventory items and repeated selections keep independent rules and choices, preventing one instance from overwriting another.
  • The Extras picker excludes non-repeatable features already owned by the character. Removing an Extra no longer removes a matching feature or companion supplied by class progression.
  • Compendium searches now consistently match straight and curly apostrophes, including names such as “Tasha’s” and “Player’s Handbook.”
  • Older compendium searches and detail requests no longer overwrite newer results after searches, source changes, or navigation.
  • Changing the character/content folder now waits for the new content to load and clears the previous character preload. A failed load no longer silently reuses the old folder’s catalog.

@github-actions github-actions released this 28 Sep 17:15

What’s new

Added

  • Content can declare an alias for an element ID it has renamed, so characters saved against the old ID keep working; an ID that still exists is never redirected.

Fixed

  • Long spell lists now scroll clear of the bottom navigation on phones, including characters whose spells come from feats or features. Database refresh errors also wrap long file paths and identifiers to keep the full message readable on narrow screens.
  • Refreshing the content database while a character is open no longer leaves that character mixing old and new content when it is reopened.
  • If content loading fails, recovery now stops before it can replace preserved definitions or restore rejected content from XML. The error identifies affected content files and directs you to repair and refresh them in Settings.
  • Content that redefines an element another book already defines now takes effect the way Aurora Builder applies it, so a homebrew revision of official material is no longer quietly ignored in favour of the original.
  • Content downloads that were being silently skipped now arrive: refreshing no longer reports nothing to do while installed files sit behind the published version, which could leave content months out of date and characters missing everything a stale file defined.
  • Settings now displays the database schema and data version numbers correctly.
  • Characters keep elements whose content ID has since been renamed, or was saved from a misspelled ID, instead of losing them silently when the character is opened.
  • Searching sources by category or publisher now reveals the matching books. Matching branches expand automatically, and clearing the search restores your previous expanded and collapsed sections.

Release process

  • This build includes Aurora.Content 0.9.0 and uses content data version 17. After installing the updated app, close character tabs and use Settings > Content > Data > Refresh Database to migrate an older database and refresh it from installed XML. Downloading content alone does not update the importer; no app-data reset is needed.

@github-actions github-actions released this 25 Sep 10:46

What’s new

Improved

  • When skipping unusable content is enabled, unreadable files and invalid append operations are left out and listed for repair, while correction errors still stop the refresh and preserve the working database.
  • Database refresh shows file and element counts, the current file, and animated activity during work that cannot report a percentage.
  • Partial character loads show a short summary of what could not be restored, with full details available in the Console.
  • Content database refresh now uses the shared Aurora content library inside the app, removing the need to find or launch a separate Translator executable.
  • Source controls now use a category, publisher, and book tree in Settings and each character's Sources tab, with required builder sources permanently enabled.

Fixed

  • Character loading no longer reports a false partial-load warning for equipped items, and character saves now report when session state cannot be written.
  • The first database import reports conflicting element IDs as unavailable while importing unaffected content, and new conflicts during later refreshes preserve the existing database for review.
  • Choice lists prevent duplicate same-name selections for non-repeatable spells, feats, classes, subclasses, races, and backgrounds, while keeping separate spellcasting acquisitions distinct and allowing an existing choice to be replaced.
  • New characters and saves without recorded source restrictions now use your configured defaults instead of inheriting restrictions from the previously opened character.
  • Saving a character no longer fails when the content catalog contains spells with the same name from different sources.
  • Aurora.Web now displays every coin denomination and rejects file or character-engine access that could cross browser-session workspace boundaries.

Release process

  • Upgrading from an older content database format requires a one-time refresh to data version 13 before content can load; databases already at version 13 do not need another format migration.

What’s new

Added

  • Attack reminders can now create, save, and edit matching character attack entries, keeping custom calculations and weapon attacks available after reopening a character.
  • Aurora.Web now includes a character overview with identity, combat, proficiency, equipment, and spellcasting summaries.

Fixed

  • Character loading and saving now verify file identity before attaching or writing state, preventing stale tabs from applying one character's changes to another file.
  • Spellcasting pickers now expand profile-driven spell lists and slots even when a profile display name differs from its backing class list.
