@MattiaBressanelli MattiaBressanelli released this 09 Oct 16:26

IfcHopper 1.0 beta 1: the first public beta of IfcHopper (formerly IfcHopperShell), a Grasshopper plugin for openBIM that creates, reads, updates and deletes data directly in native IFC files.

Breaking change: IfcHopper 1.0 is not compatible with IfcHopperShell 0.1. Definitions made with 0.1 do not work with 1.0 and have to be rebuilt with the 1.0 components. IfcHopper no longer needs Python or IfcOpenShell.

Highlights

  • Read IFC2X3, IFC4 and IFC4X3 files, loading only what you explore: spatial tree, elements, geometry, types, materials, property and quantity sets, classifications, openings.
  • Create projects, sites, buildings and the IFC 4.3 facilities (bridges, roads, railways, marine facilities), storeys, facility parts, spaces and any IFC element class, with geometry, types linked to Rhino blocks, materials, property sets and classifications.
  • Edit in place: change a read file and write it back; objects are matched by GlobalId and everything you don't touch stays as it was.
  • Write IFC4X3_ADD2, IFC4 or IFC2X3, with warnings for what an older schema cannot hold.
  • Find objects by class, name, GlobalId or property values, and summarise models.
  • 15 sample definitions, one per workflow.

Install

Requires Rhino 8.20 or later.

  1. Download IfcHopper-1.0.0-beta.1.zip below.
  2. On Windows, unblock it: right-click > Properties > tick Unblock.
  3. In Grasshopper, open File > Special Folders > Components Folder and unzip the IfcHopper folder into it.
  4. Restart Rhino. The components are in the IfcHopper tab.

Beta notes

  • Component inputs and outputs may still change before 1.0.
  • What IFC 4.3 covers and IfcHopper does not yet (e.g. alignments as objects, groups and systems, parametric geometry when writing) is listed in the README, with the plan for later releases.
  • Tested on Windows. Rhino 8 for Mac should work but has not been tested yet.

Feedback

Please report bugs in the issues with your Rhino version, the steps to reproduce, the message on the component and, if you can share it, the IFC file or a small definition.
