Krate 2.0 | After Effects, Notes and Resources
The biggest release so far. Everything since 1.4.0 in one go.
After Effects
Krate can now read an After Effects project and pull in the footage it is missing.
- Pick an
.aep(or.aepx) and the project it belongs to, then scan. Krate reads every file the project uses. - Each file is sorted into: in the project, outside it, found elsewhere, several matches, or not found.
- Footage you dragged in from another project gets copied into a
restoredfolder. Image sequences come along whole, and files already in the project are never copied twice. - A
script/relink.jsxis written that repoints the footage from inside After Effects (File > Scripts > Run Script File…). Your.aepis never modified. - Choose where to search: your Resources, sources set in Settings, or every other project.
Notes
A new Notes tab: pages of blocks, the way you would write them in Notion.
- Press
/to insert a heading, bullet list, numbered list, to-do, quote, code block or divider. - Markdown shortcuts work too:
#,-,1.,[],>,```. - Enter starts the next block and carries the list type. Backspace at the start of a line merges it into the one above.
- Pages can hold sub-pages, and can be linked to a project, where they show up on its Overview.
- Everything saves itself while you type.
Resources and importing
- A folder can now be a Resource instead of a Project: a place you pull files from, like an Essentials or SFX collection. No status, kept out of All Projects and the project count, own sidebar entry, and searched first by the After Effects panel.
- Folders you already have can be imported as they are. In the New dialog, switch from creating to importing, then pick a folder or drop one in. Nothing is moved.
- Switch an existing project to a Resource, or back, in its Settings tab.
Quick search and viewer
- The search bar works like a proper little file browser: double-click opens, folders open inside the bar, and Shift, Ctrl or a drag box select several files to pull out together.
- Dragging files out no longer closes the bar. Only Escape does.
- A Play button on image, video and code rows opens a built-in viewer, with a live preview for HTML.
Graph
- Notes pages appear in the graph, hanging off the project they belong to.
- Identical files living in more than one project are joined by a dashed line.
- Shift-click a folder to fold it shut, with Collapse all and Expand all.
Sidebar
- The status filters moved into a collapsible Status section, closed by default, so the sidebar starts with just All Projects, Favorites, Notes and Resources.
- Each of those four has its own colour, and the favorites star is finally yellow.
Fixes
- Adopting existing folders from a project root silently did nothing. Fixed.
- A project whose
krate.jsonhad no status showed up as "undefined" in the stats. - Cover images can be framed after uploading: drag to move, scroll to zoom.
- Large graphs no longer fling their nodes off-screen while loading.
Installing: download Krate-Setup-2.0.0.exe and run it. Existing installs update themselves within six hours, or immediately via the update bar.
