Full Changelog: v0.2.10...v0.2.11
macOS installation and troubleshooting
Requires macOS 13 or later and an administrator account. For hotspot use, connect the Mac to the internet through Ethernet. Use its built-in Wi-Fi for the hotspot.
Install
-
Under Assets in this release, download the DMG for your Mac:
- Apple silicon (M1 or later):
Caspian-v0.2.11-macos-arm64.dmg. - Intel:
Caspian-v0.2.11-macos-amd64.dmg.
- Apple silicon (M1 or later):

Download
SHA256SUMSfrom this same release. In Terminal, run the matching command from the folder that contains your download:# Apple silicon shasum -a 256 Caspian-v0.2.11-macos-arm64.dmg # Intel shasum -a 256 Caspian-v0.2.11-macos-amd64.dmg
Compare the result with the matching filename in
SHA256SUMS. If they differ, stop and download the file again. -
Open the DMG. Drag
Caspian.appinto Applications, then open that copy. -
If macOS reports an unverified developer, open System Settings > Privacy & Security. Click Open Anyway beside Caspian, then approve the opening.
-
Approve the administrator prompt for setup or an update. If you cancel it, use Set up Caspian or Update Caspian to retry.
-
On first setup, save the panel password shown by Caspian. Choose Open panel and sign in with that password.
These releases use ad-hoc signing. They do not have Apple Developer ID signing or notarization. A matching checksum identifies the release file. It does not establish its safety.
If macOS blocks the background service
First, check the official download and its checksum. Use this step only for an unverified-developer or unnotarized-app warning for a download you trust. If the alert names malware or a Trojan, stop and report the alert. Do not bypass that detection.
If the warning names lowercase caspian after setup, open Terminal and run:
sudo xattr -d com.apple.quarantine /usr/local/bin/caspianThis removes only the quarantine attribute from the installed service. It does not sign or notarize the executable. No such xattr means the attribute is already absent. If the file is missing, complete setup first.
In Caspian Control, choose Advanced options > Restart services. This disconnects hotspot clients during the restart.
If setup, the panel, or the hotspot still fails
-
Check that Ethernet internet works while Caspian is off.
-
Read the exact error in Caspian Control and the web panel. Control readiness alone does not establish a working tunnel.
-
On the Mac itself, try the local panel after the services start.
-
To inspect recent service errors locally, run:
sudo tail -n 80 /Library/Logs/Caspian/caspian.log sudo tail -n 80 /Library/Logs/Caspian/caspian-panel.log
For a support report, include the macOS version, Caspian version, and Ethernet/Wi-Fi arrangement. State whether each Wi-Fi adapter is internal or external. Include the exact error and the steps you tried. Give protocol and transport names only.
Do not post full logs, configurations, subscriptions, credentials, server addresses, or personal network identifiers. Remove sensitive details from any short error excerpt before posting it.
