AttackFM 0.6.9

Choose a tag to compare

@InfamousVague InfamousVague released this 13 Sep 02:46

The first native build since 0.5.96, and the one that can tell you about the next.

What only a native build could carry

  • Update notifications on Android. AttackFM can now tell you a new version is out even while the app is closed. It is off until you turn on Update notifications in Settings → Notifications. The phone checks a few times a day, so a notification can arrive hours after a release, and tapping it opens the app, which installs the update the usual way.

Everything else

Everything that has arrived over the air since 0.5.96 is in the installers too, so a fresh download starts on 0.6.9. See CHANGELOG.md for the full list.

Downloads

macOS is a universal build (Apple Silicon and Intel in one). Windows and Linux are attached below by CI shortly after this release is published; Android is the universal APK.

@InfamousVague InfamousVague released this 04 Sep 14:18

The first native build since 0.5.38 — 58 versions of work that has been
arriving over the air now lands in the installers themselves, so a fresh
download starts where everyone else already is.

What only a native build could carry

  • Share links read attack.fm. An invite, a playlist, a jam, a profile —
    all now attack.fm/i/CODE rather than registry.attack.fm/i/CODE. This
    build is the half that could not ship over the air: it is what lets the app
    claim those links from the operating system, so tapping one opens AttackFM
    instead of a browser tab. Every link already sent to anybody keeps working
    exactly as before — the old host is claimed too, and stays claimed.

Everything else, in brief

Multi-device Connect finally behaves: the phone shows the song your desktop is
actually playing, at its real length, and its skip and pause reach the device
with the music. The lock screen, Control Centre, CarPlay and Android Auto
follow the same song.

Music Date, the per-listener taste model behind it, the Discover tab, playlist
and profile sharing, the visualizers, karaoke, audiobook transcription, and a
long run of smaller fixes. See CHANGELOG.md for all 58 versions.

AttackFM 0.5.38

@InfamousVague InfamousVague released this 02 Sep 13:57

Android build 0.5.38. The app itself, not an over-the-air bundle: this carries the native pieces a bundle cannot - saving the invite card into Photos, links that open the app (registry.attack.fm and attackfm://), and everything below since 0.5.29.

0.5.39

  • When saving a picture needs a newer app, the message now names the app version this phone actually has installed, and says that updates over the air do not replace the app itself.

0.5.38

  • Save image on the invite card works again where it silently did not: the picture is drawn ahead of the tap, so the share sheet on iPhone opens inside the tap instead of being refused after the wait; on a desktop the card lands on the clipboard; and an Android app from before 0.5.29 now says it needs updating instead of claiming a download.

0.5.37

  • Profiles are global now. While sharing is on, your listening profile - the numbers, top artists, songs and albums for every range, and your liked songs by name - lives on your AttackFM account, not on a server. Friends see it from any server they listen on; what they own of it plays, the rest is read. Turning sharing off shuts the door at once.

0.5.36

  • A friend's profile that does not load now says why, instead of guessing the server is behind. A friend who is on your server with a plain server login (never through their AttackFM account) gets an honest note about that; the server also matches their name case-blind, so capitals in a username no longer hide a profile.

0.5.35

  • The share button in the header now shares what you are looking at: on a playlist it opens that playlist's sharing sheet (or, for a list shared with you, who else has it); everywhere else it is still the invite card.

0.5.34

  • Sharing a playlist has its own sheet now: who is in and the seat they hold, friends on this server one tap from a seat, and friends who are on another server listed honestly as out of reach. Members open the same sheet to see who else has it, and the door out.
  • The invite sheet lost its "New code" button - changing the lifetime or uses already makes a fresh one.
  • Every glass sheet can be pulled shut again on a phone: the browser used to claim the swipe as a scroll a few pixels in.

0.5.33

  • The Invite a friend card is tidier: how long the code lasts and how many
    people it admits are now two dropdowns side by side, and the Copy link and
    Save image buttons share the row evenly.

0.5.32

  • Your account is the one key. The first sign-in on a device registers that device with your account, so when the session ages out the app signs itself back in - no password on a phone keyboard, ever again.
  • Recovery codes: Settings → Account & devices mints eight one-time codes. Lose the password and every device, and one of them still gets you in.
  • One account form everywhere (the front door and the Friends page used to each have their own), and honest labels on the ways past it: "Use without an account", "Use without a server".

0.5.31

  • Send a song to a friend: hold a song, choose Send to a friend, pick who. They get the name, and their own server fetches it into their Liked songs - no files change hands. The first song from anyone asks them once whether they take songs from you.
  • Songs friends send you wait on the Friends page under Sent to you, and ring the bell.

0.5.30

  • Playlists from your other servers now show up on the Playlists page, in their own row named after the server. They play through that server; you cannot edit them from here.
  • Sitting on two servers at once no longer mixes up songs that happen to share a number: heavy rotation, a friend's hearts, the stats page and the Discover shelf only resolve songs from the server they came from.
  • Offline songs remember which server they were saved from, so switching your main server can never play the wrong song under the same number.

AttackFM 0.5.29

  • Invite links (registry.attack.fm/i/…) now open straight in the app on
    Android and iOS instead of a browser page, and the "Open in AttackFM"
    button on that page works on Android at last. Needs the 0.5.29 app build.

AttackFM 0.5.20

@InfamousVague InfamousVague released this 01 Sep 21:14
  • "Save image" on the invite card now saves on Android — into Photos, in an AttackFM album — and says so. It used to do nothing.
  • Invite a friend is a share glyph in the header beside the notification bell (0.5.19).
  • Shared playlists: share a list with friends on your server as viewers or editors, and build it together (0.5.18; needs the server update).
  • Invite card follows the real join flow and prints a live invite code; the lyrics button toggles the lyrics face (0.5.17).

  • The AttackFM folder is now a record collection: cached songs file themselves into Artist/Album folders instead of one flat list, and empty shelves fold away when their last song leaves. Existing caches sort themselves onto their shelves on the next cache pass.
  • (from 0.5.3) Readable filenames, instant adoption of the browsable folder on grant, offline art and Canvas from the on-device cache.

AttackFM 0.5.3

@InfamousVague InfamousVague released this 01 Sep 03:13
  • Cached songs now stored under readable names — "Artist - Title.flac" instead of hex — so the AttackFM folder reads like a music folder in any file browser. Existing caches rename themselves in place on the next cache pass.
  • The browsable AttackFM folder now takes over the moment storage access is granted, instead of waiting for the next full app restart; anything already cached migrates in.
  • Offline album art and Spotify Canvas clips now come from the on-device cache first.

@InfamousVague InfamousVague released this 01 Sep 02:36

AttackFM 0.5.0

  • Android: the browsable AttackFM folder. Settings → Storage grows an "Allow the AttackFM folder" button; once Android grants all-files access, cached music lives in AttackFM/Music where any file manager can browse and prune it, and everything already held migrates itself across.
  • Talk to the DJ — the Booth's mic chip records a sentence, your server turns it into words, a set steered by them starts within seconds, and the collector begins downloading whatever you asked for that the library doesn't hold.
  • Louder when driving — speed-compensated volume from the phone's GPS, in three strengths. Off by default.
  • Tap a "New music" notification and the song plays instead of just opening the app.
  • Genre charts (Pop, Indie & Alt, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rock, Dance), the New music DJ chip dealing your waiting music dates, and the launch screen's wave now sweeping through the wordmark itself.

Windows and Linux bundles are attached by CI shortly after this release appears.

Catch me up

Come back to a book after three weeks and press one button: the app reads back everything that has happened up to your bookmark and stops there. Not one word past where you stopped — the recap is built only from the chapters you have finished and the words you actually heard, so it cannot spoil what is coming.

It is in the chapter list in the player, and on the book's own sheet on the shelf, where you would find it before pressing play. Needs a server with a transcript of the book and an AI model set up; without either it says so plainly.

Fall asleep at the end of a chapter

The sleep timer's "track end" is no use to a reading: a twelve-hour book is usually one file, so stopping at the end of it meant stopping tomorrow morning. On a book the same button now waits for the next chapter break, fading out into it, and says Chapter end so it is not promising one thing and doing another.

The home-screen widget is the player (Android)

It looked like a notification in a box. Now it wears the accent you chose, the cover with the app's own corners, and the scrubber's squiggle — and it comes in three sizes: a row, the player folded to two cells, and a cover-forward face with the times and a heart. A book gets its chapter under the artist.

The widget's native half only arrives with this install; the rest of the app updates itself over the air.

AttackFM 0.4.57

A car that can be asked: 'play X on AttackFM' works from cold, and the
dashboard's browse tree has real branches (Artists, Albums, Books, Playlists)
instead of four dead ends.

Also carries the three-column desktop strip and per-song waveforms.
