DUDE 0.9.1 — portable Linux binary + shader packaging fix
Point release of 0.9. If you use
the OpenGL 3.3 or Vulkan renderers, upgrade — 0.9's archives were missing the GLSL/
SPIR-V shaders, so those two backends rendered black on a clean install (the default
classic renderer was unaffected). Shaders are now embedded in the executable itself and
can't go missing.
Changed since 0.9
- Portable Linux binary: the 0.9 only worked with Arch linux and derivatives.
Now built against glibc 2.34 with static C++ runtime and static shaderc —
it should run out of the box on Ubuntu 22.04+, Debian 12+, Fedora, Arch,
and the gaming distros (SteamOS 3, Bazzite, Nobara, CachyOS…). A current Vulkan
loader is bundled as a fallback (lib/libvulkan.so.1). System requirements are just
SDL2, OpenAL and libcurl from your distro. - Shaders embedded in the binary (GL3 + Vulkan): a bare executable now renders on
all three backends;base/shaders/stays available as a modder override. - Archives now include the PBR material tables, gamepad configs and the mod
cvar-translation table that 0.9 was not bundled with. - Runtime mod-ARB shader compilation now works on the Linux binary (static shaderc).
(Still absent on Windows Vulkan — affected mod effects skip there.)
Setup (same as 0.9)
You need the original DOOM 3 / Resurrection of Evil game data (base/*.pk4,
d3xp/*.pk4) from your own copy (Steam/GOG classic, not the BFG Edition).
- Windows (64-bit): unzip and copy the contents of the
dude-0.9.1-win64
folder into your Doom 3 directory, next tobase/(the included pk4/config files
merge intobase/). Or run from anywhere with+set fs_basepath "C:\path\to\Doom 3". - Linux (x86_64): untar and copy the contents into your Doom 3 directory the same
way, run./dude. may need to change the file to have execution permissions with
"chmod +x dude"
Renderer selection: +set r_graphicsAPI opengl|opengl3|vulkan or the in-game menu.
Configs/saves live in ~/.local/share/dude (Linux) / Documents/My Games/dude (Windows).
Optional download: baked ambient-occlusion pack
dude-0.9.1-baked-ao.zip (~100 MB): precomputed per-material AO maps for subtle
contact shading on world surfaces, props and weapons. Extract into your Doom 3
directory the same way. Entirely optional.
