Added

  • Stale editable-metadata detection — new check_stale_editable_metadata (surfaced via doctor as stale_editable_metadata) flags an editable install of the project whose recorded dist version differs from [project] version in pyproject.toml. Code imports live, but pip and importlib.metadata report the install-time version until pip install -e . is re-run.

Fixed

  • check_stale_egg_info is now anchored on pyproject.toml and catches orphaned egg-infos. Previously an egg-info whose distribution was not installed was silently skipped, and one matching an equally-stale installed record passed the version comparison — both real-world outcomes of a package rename (a leftover stele.egg-info provided a phantom stele 0.7.0 distribution to every Python process run from the project directory and was never flagged). Egg-infos are now also compared against [project] name/version: a name mismatch is flagged as orphaned_name, and a version that matches the installed record but not pyproject.toml is flagged as stale_vs_project. Behavior without a readable pyproject.toml is unchanged. Issues now carry a reason field.
