Word Hunter 1.1.0
The 1.1 line brings vocabulary import from World of Warcraft, a reader and
flashcard pass, a refreshed interface, and a noticeably quicker start for
people with large libraries. Install it over 1.0.13 directly — nothing needs
to be exported first.
New
- Import German quest vocabulary from World of Warcraft — the Export
screen reads the SavedVariables file written by the WordHunterWoW addon.
Imported words keep their status, the meaning you typed, your note, and the
quest sentence they came from. Re-importing the same file updates the
existing entries instead of duplicating them, and a newer edit made in Word
Hunter is never overwritten by an older export. - Encounter history for imported words — each word keeps the date it was
first added, the date it was last seen, and how many different quests it
turned up in. A word you are still learning that has appeared in at least
five quests over two weeks is marked as possibly ready for Known. Word
Hunter never changes the status by itself. - Fill missing meanings on import — with automatic translation switched
on, words that arrive without a meaning are translated one by one by
whichever provider you have configured. - Edit the word itself — the vocabulary editor now lets you correct the
headword, not only its translation, status, or note. The word keeps its
learning progress; renaming onto a word you already have is refused rather
than silently merged. - AI explanations ask before replacing a note — saving an explanation into
a note that already has text offers to add it at the end, replace the note,
or cancel. - Shuffle today's cards — a button in the review header reorders what is
left for today and starts again from the first card. - Separable German verbs are hidden on reverse cards — both halves of
"rief … an" are blanked in the example sentence, with the words between them
left readable. - Read-along keeps up — while text is read aloud, the highlighted word is
kept on screen even after you scroll or the layout shifts, and tracking
recovers instead of freezing when a spoken word does not match. - Reader fonts for dyslexia — Atkinson Hyperlegible and OpenDyslexic are
bundled and selectable under Settings, Reader font. - Bold and italic in the book editor — a small format bar adds markers
that the reader renders inline. Markers are removed before the text is split
into words, so saved vocabulary and text-to-speech are unaffected. - Discovery — Project Gutenberg, Wikipedia, and Wikinews. Wikisource has
been dropped because it produced stubs too short to read; if you had it
selected, the choice moves to Gutenberg and anything already imported stays
readable. - A calmer interface — softer accent colour, tighter corner radius,
consistent button sizes, and plainer panels throughout.
Faster
- Starting up and saving with a large library — Word Hunter used to read
and parse every stored record several times per action, which is felt most
by libraries holding scanned PDFs. On a library of about a thousand records
with one large OCR import, starting the app dropped from roughly nine
seconds to four, and saving a book edit from about fifteen seconds to seven.
Fixes
- The language you pick is the language you get — on Android the interface
language prompt no longer reappears at every launch, and the saved language
reliably wins over the system one at startup. - Image text recognition finishes — importing a dense page no longer
reports a failure after fifteen seconds while the recognition was still
running. - Long operations keep their time budget — AI explanations, model
downloads, and library transfers are each given a deadline that matches the
work instead of a single short one that cut them off. - Hiding word underlines works on Android — the eye toggle in the pocket
layout no longer loses to the per-status underline styles. - Reader — jumping to a bookmark scrolls the word into view, and opening
the in-text search no longer places the magnifier over the close button. - Deleting a book — the confirmation dialog stays put with a spinner until
the deletion is durably saved, and stops waiting instead of hanging. - Windows data folder — pointing the data location at a different folder
through the APPDATA variable works again. - Importing EPUB files — large books stream in instead of being held in
memory twice. - Keyboard and screen readers — the panel divider can be moved from the
keyboard and reports its position, a skip link is available, focus returns
to the page after rendering and to the reader word after the panel closes,
and Escape and the arrow keys work during review. - Legibility — accent contrast raised, a visible focus ring on blue
controls, and round controls enlarged to a comfortable touch size. - Review heatmap — today is worked out in your own timezone, and the
labels, months, and legend are easier to read. - Every language — one, few, many, and other plural forms across all ten
interface languages.
Known issues
- Import from WordHunterWoW is one-way. Status changes you make afterwards in
Word Hunter are not sent back to the addon. - A first import of several thousand new words from WordHunterWoW can hold the
interface for a few seconds before the summary appears. Later imports of the
same file are immediate. - The layout of Discovery result cards still needs work.
Upgrade notes
- For encounter history, use WordHunterWoW 1.5.0 or newer; 1.7.1 is current.
Older exports still import, without the history. - Android: install over your existing copy; your data is kept.
