LocalSend for BlackBerry 10 — v0.1.1 (Build 7)

Bringing modern local file sharing to legacy BlackBerry 10 devices! 🚀

An unofficial, native client for LocalSend. Built purely out of passion for retro hardware preservation—giving beloved BlackBerry devices a second life as practical, seamless tools in modern local networks.

✨ Features

  • Native BlackBerry 10 Experience: Tailored for BB10 with a fluid, responsive square/portrait layout and full support for system Dark and Light themes.
  • Zero-Configuration Discovery: Automatically discovers nearby LocalSend clients on the same Wi-Fi network (Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android).
  • Seamless Bidirectional Sharing:
    • Phone -> PC / Smartphone: Select and send photos, music, and documents via the native system file picker.
    • PC / Smartphone -> Phone: Instant incoming transfer banner right on the Radar screen for one-tap acceptance.
  • Bit-Exact Integrity: End-to-end streaming SHA-256 validation guarantees that every transferred file is cryptographically intact.

📦 Installation

Due to the shutdown of official BlackBerry signing servers in 2022, running custom native apps requires a rooted device:

  1. Root Access: Ensure your device is rooted using trusted community methods (custom autoloader patching is generated locally, keeping your system clean).
  2. Deploy the BAR: Download localsend-bb10.bar from the Assets below and install it using your favorite sideloading tool (e.g. Sachesi, DBBTool, Chrome BB10 App Manager, or blackberry-deploy).

💡 Interoperability Note (HTTP Mode)

On your PC or modern smartphone's official LocalSend client:

  • Open Settings and make sure Encryption (HTTPS) is disabled (standard HTTP mode).
(Legacy BB10 lacks modern TLS 1.3 ciphers, so standard HTTP ensures smooth, reliable transfers across your private local network).
  • Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi, and your BlackBerry will automatically appear in the nearby devices radar!
