Highlights

  • New Standby turns your phone into a bedside screen: the song, its lyrics and a clock, full screen. Open it from the player's menu.
  • Lyrics show duets as a conversation, with each singer on their own side, and glide smoothly from line to line.
  • Make Koda yours in the new Customization settings: the mini player, Home, the video player, gestures and more.
  • Give your profile a look of its own with the avatar maker, see your listening stats, and tell Koda your taste to shape what it recommends.
  • Give videos a new look with 14 video shaders, from Film and Noir to VHS and Comic, and lock the screen while you watch.
  • Album colors can tint the whole app, and Discord can show the song you are listening to.

What's new

Standby and lyrics

  • Added Standby: open it from the player's menu to show the song, its lyrics and a clock full screen, made for a phone on your desk or nightstand.
  • Standby turns into a large bedside clock when you pause, and dims itself after five minutes without a touch.
  • When your phone is charging on its side with music playing, Koda offers Standby at the top of the screen. Turn this off in Settings > Customization > Standby.
  • Duets now show each singer's lines on their own side, like a conversation.
  • Lyrics are now left-aligned, with an option to centre them in Settings > Lyrics.
  • Lyrics move to the next line in a smooth ripple and keep more of the song on screen.

Make Koda yours

  • Added a Customization page in Settings that gathers theme, app icon, display size, player, mini player, video player, Home and gesture options in one place.
  • Added mini player options: choose up to three buttons and their order, what tapping or holding it does, the line under the title, its color, how the cover moves and when it shrinks to a bubble.
  • Added a Progress choice for the mini player: fill the mini player, draw a line around the cover, or both.
  • Added a choice of start screen and start mode, so Koda can always open on Home, Search or Library, in music or in video.
  • Added options to show tab names always, only for the open tab or never, and to keep the floating navigation bar from hiding while you scroll.
  • Redesigned the Home top bar with a greeting and a single music and video button that changes shape with the mode, with options to hide the greeting and to always show the downloads button.
  • Added album colors for the whole app in music mode, changing with each song. Choose Off, Player or Whole app in Settings under Player.
  • Every screen now carries a soft tint of your palette, with cards standing out brighter on top, and Settings has bolder, more colorful icons.
  • The music mini player takes your accent color, fills up as the song plays, has a spinning cover that changes shape, and shrinks to a small circle while you scroll.
  • The Editorial player's cover takes a new shape with each song.

Profiles and taste

  • Added Koda profiles: tap your profile picture in music mode to see your listening time, streak, top artists and songs, genres and the artists you follow. Hold it to switch profiles.
  • Added an avatar maker for profiles without an account, with shapes, colors, faces and extras to mix, a "Surprise me" button, or your own photo. These profiles can be renamed too.
  • Added a taste setup: pick artists and genres, then swipe through songs to tell Koda what you like. Change it any time in Settings under Content and feeds.
  • Added Follow on artist pages. Artists you follow appear in your Library under Artists and shape your recommendations.
  • Redesigned the Account page: your profile and its sign-in status, what it holds, and every profile on your device, with switching and Incognito in one place.

Video

  • Added Video shaders in Settings > Customization: 14 presets, from Vivid, Film and Noir to VHS, CRT, Comic and Sketch, with a Shaders tab in the player to switch while you watch.
  • Added Sharpen, Brightness, Contrast and Saturation sliders that work on top of any preset, and a custom shader editor with examples to start from. HDR videos play in standard range while Video shaders is on.
  • Added a screen lock for fullscreen video, so a phone in a pocket cannot seek, change the volume or leave fullscreen. Tap to reveal the unlock button, then press and hold it.
  • Added a Hold speed setting (2x, 3x or 4x), a setting for how long the controls stay on screen, and switches to turn off hold to speed up and the brightness and volume swipes.
  • The video player's settings are one panel: quality, speed and audio are one tap away, and speed can be set to any value.
  • Added posts from the channels you follow between videos on Home and in Subscriptions, and Subscriptions keeps loading older uploads as you scroll.
  • Added a Video feed page in Customization to choose whether Home and Subscriptions show community posts, the Shorts shelf and live streams, and an option to hide videos you have already watched from Home.
  • Video downloads keep their captions, so subtitles work offline, and you choose which languages to keep.

Music

  • Added Import from Spotify: paste or share a Spotify playlist or album link and Koda builds a playlist of the same songs from YouTube Music.
  • Added an Add songs screen for playlists, with your recently played and liked songs and a YouTube Music search.
  • Added a quality choice when downloading music (High or Data saver, with the file size shown), and an option to save lyrics with downloaded songs. Both have defaults under Settings > Storage and cache.
  • Improved AutoMix: songs with a matching beat blend for longer with the bass handed over, a song echoes out when the next one's beat cannot be matched, tempo matching sounds better, and more songs are analysed ahead.
  • Added Discord Rich Presence: turn it on in Settings > Playback to show the song you are playing on your Discord profile. It needs the Discord app signed in on the same phone.
  • Added two home screen widgets: Vinyl, a record that turns while your music plays, and Pixel, a pixel-art turntable.
  • The waveform seek bar appears sooner, works with music caching off and for cached songs in Local Only, and the next song is measured ahead.
  • Pulling to refresh Home now brings different songs to the top.

Notifications and updates

  • Notifications load the whole inbox and keep their history for 60 days, with filters for videos, Shorts or posts, New and Earlier sections, and swipe to hide.
  • Added a "What's new" screen after each update, and a clearer notice with the highlights when a new version is out.
  • Backup and restore opens inside Settings, beside the list on tablets and in landscape.

Fixed

  • Fixed songs skipping one after another, or stalling about a minute in, on some connections even though the internet was working.
  • Fixed videos stalling a few seconds in on some connections, and HDR videos stopping with an error after a connection problem.
  • Fixed Normalise volume not evening out songs you had not played before.
  • Fixed the whole lyric line lighting up for a moment at the end of word-by-word lyrics.
  • Fixed albums playing the music video's audio instead of the song when signed out, and a song and its video both being added to the queue.
  • Fixed some videos and your video history showing "Unknown Channel" or "Unknown Title" where YouTube sent no name.
  • Fixed notifications about community posts doing nothing when tapped. They now open the post and its comments.
  • Fixed home screen widgets turning into a different widget after an update, and sometimes showing no cover.
  • Fixed failed downloads disappearing when the app restarts, video downloads that could not be resumed or cancelled while finishing, and downloads showing "Preparing" near the end.
  • Fixed the waveform seek bar sometimes staying a plain bar for a whole song, or saving a flat ending after a connection drop.
  • Fixed another song appearing for a moment in the mini player after a swipe, and a dismissed song coming back in the media controls.
  • Fixed a page that could stop scrolling after switching between music and video, and the Play button on the Classic Home changing size with long artist names.
  • Fixed profile pictures with a shaped outline being cut off at the top of Home, and made the Subscribe button on channel pages more reliable.
  • Radio and auto-queue no longer add songs from artists you marked "Don't recommend", and the update check no longer runs while Local only is on.
