v1.0.0 - Initial Release

Hello everyone, and welcome to the first public release of Window-To-Tray! This utility is designed to help you manage your workspace by minimizing any window directly to the system tray, keeping your taskbar clean and organized.

✨ Main Features

  • Minimize to Tray: Right-click the minimize button of any window to send it to the tray.
  • Global Hotkeys: Use Ctrl+Alt+M to minimize the active window and Ctrl+Alt+X to hide all visible windows. These can be customized in the settings.
  • UWP/Modern App Support: Includes an enhanced hiding mode for UWP apps (like the Microsoft Store or Calculator) using virtual desktops to ensure they are completely hidden from the taskbar.
  • Smart Icon Handling: Automatically extracts and processes window icons (especially for UWP apps) to remove backgrounds, ensuring a cleaner and more consistent look in the tray.
  • Settings Panel: Right-click the main program icon in the tray to access the settings panel, where you can customize hotkeys, language, and other features.
  • Bilingual UI: Supports both English and Chinese.

❗ Prerequisites

This application requires the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable to run. If you don't have it installed, please download and install the X64 version from the official Microsoft website:

⚠️ Important Notice: Antivirus Warnings

You may receive a warning from your antivirus software regarding the file VirtualDesktopAccessor.dll. This is a false positive.

Why does this happen?
This DLL is essential for the "virtual desktop enhancement" feature, which properly hides UWP applications. It works by interacting with undocumented Windows functions to manage virtual desktops. This type of low-level system interaction can sometimes be flagged as suspicious by heuristic antivirus scanners.

The project is fully open-source. You are encouraged to inspect the code yourself to verify its safety.

💻 Compatibility Notes

  • For Windows 10 Users: To ensure the UWP/Modern App hiding feature works correctly, you must manually create at least one extra virtual desktop. The code is quite similar to the existing implementation and has been omitted for brevity. If you need this code, please feel free to request it by opening an issue on our repository.
  • For Other Windows 11 Builds: If you are using a version of Windows 11 that is not compatible, you may experience issues with the UWP hiding feature. This is likely due to an incompatible VirtualDesktopAccessor.dll. To fix this, please visit the official repository for the DLL, download the version that corresponds to your Windows build, and replace the existing DLL in the application folder.
