Rob Weir edited this page Jan 14, 2016 · 10 revisions

Overview

This will be the easiest 10 points of the semester. Slack, Github and Atom are industry tools that we will be using in this course.

Due Date

This will be due by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21. If you get stuck at any part, please reach out.

Points possible

10

Part 1: Github

  1. Make a Github account*
  2. Watch this repository
  3. Download Github Desktop

*Already have a Github account? Awesome. No need to make another one, just use the one you already have.

Be sure to choose a username that won't embarrass you in 5 years. Should you choose to go into design / development, you'll probably build upon this account.

Part 2: Slack

  1. Check your student email
  2. Find email invite: "Rob has invited you to join J4502 Slack!"
  3. Make an account on our Slack channel.
  4. If you have a Mac, I highly recommend downloading their Mac App.
  5. Make sure to fill out your first and last name.
  6. Add a profile picture
  7. Introduce yourself on the #hello-world channel:
  • Where you're from
  • What you're studying
  • What you hope to get out of this course
  • If you could automate one thing in your life, what would you choose?
  • Github username

Part 3: Atom

  1. Download Atom

Part 4: Accept invite to J4502 Organization

Once you've sent Elizabeth or Rob your Github username, we can add you to the this Organization. You'll receive an email notification. Once you've joined, you'll get credit for this assignment. 👍

tl;dr:

Join Slack and Github, download the apps. Download Atom. 10 points possible, 1 percent of your semester grade.
