Chosen 4.0.0 brings the fork's accumulated compatibility fixes, accessibility updates, and new integration options into a major release. The default npm entry remains the jQuery adapter, the Prototype adapter remains available, and native <select> elements remain the source of submitted values and selection events.
Highlights
- Add an experimental dependency-free Vanilla JavaScript edition and expand the React edition toward feature parity with the classic adapters.
- Add opt-in remote search helpers, a mobile full-screen picker, fixed and custom-width dropdowns, bulk multiple-selection actions, and selected-choice summaries.
- Improve keyboard, touch, focus, validation, and accessibility behavior across the supported editions.
- Keep all four demo editions aligned and document the new options and integration behavior.
Upgrading from 3.x
For most installations, 4.0.0 is a drop-in upgrade: update chosen-jjj and its matching CSS/JavaScript assets, then keep your existing .chosen() calls. Native select values, form submission, and selection events continue to work as before.
Generated search inputs now default to type="search"; set search_input_type: "text" if an integration depends on the prior markup. Generated combobox roles and accessibility attributes have changed, and result labels use native option text instead of copied HTML. Review custom CSS, DOM snapshots, and role queries before upgrading.
